This evening prayer for daily provision is for the close of the day, when you want to hand God the needs you carried through it and rest in his care. Pray it at bedtime, at the kitchen table after dinner, or in the car on the way home. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.
Evening Prayer for Daily Provision
Lord, thank you for the day that is ending. You were with me in the ordinary hours: the work I finished, the meals on the table, the bills I paid and the ones still waiting. I bring you the things I could not carry alone, and I ask you to take them from my hands now. Where I worried about money, time, or whether there would be enough, I confess that fear and set it down before you.
Thank you that you feed the birds and clothe the grass, and that you have never once forgotten the people who trust you. Tonight I ask you to provide for my family, for the needs I can name and the ones I cannot yet see. Give us wisdom with what we have, and open the doors that need to open. Help me to be generous with what you give, and content with what is enough.
Watch over my sleep. Guard our home and the people in it, and keep anxious thoughts from crowding out the rest you have promised. When I wake, let me meet the new day expecting your faithfulness again. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Father, you know what I need before I ask. Thank you for what you have already given today. Provide for tomorrow as you have provided for today, and quiet my heart so I can sleep. Keep my family safe through the night, and help me trust you with what I cannot control. Amen.
Scriptures to Pray Alongside
Matthew 6:26
See the birds of the sky, that they don’t sow, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns. Your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you of much more value than they?
(WEB)
Read this slowly as you pray, and ask God to help you look at the ordinary ways he sustains creation. Let it remind you that your worth is greater than the birds, and that the Father who feeds them is already attending to you.
Psalm 23:1
The LORD is my shepherd: I shall lack nothing.
(WEB)
Pray this as a confession of trust before you go to sleep. Name the places where you feel in want, and say the Lord is your shepherd in those specific places, not only in theory.
Philippians 4:19
My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
(WEB)
Use this verse to pray over the needs on your mind tonight. Ask God to supply them according to his riches, not according to what you think is possible, and thank him in advance for the way he will do it.
Lamentations 3:22-23
22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.
(WEB)
This passage speaks of mercies that are new every morning. Pray it when today felt heavy, and ask God to meet you again at dawn with the compassion and faithfulness he has shown before.
Psalm 4:8
In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, the LORD alone, make me live in safety.
(WEB)
Pray this verse as you lie down. Ask God to make you safe and let you rest, trusting that the peace you need does not depend on how well the day went.
How to Pray This Prayer
Choose a quiet moment after the last task of the day, when the lights are low and the phone is set aside. Sit or kneel beside your bed, or stand at the sink with your hands in warm water. Physical stillness helps the mind let go of the list of worries that tends to surface at night.
If you share a home, pray it aloud with a spouse, a child, or a roommate, and let them add their own needs. You can also write the names of the people or bills you are worried about on a slip of paper and place it under your pillow or by your Bible as a visible reminder to leave them with God until morning.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord who provided for you today keep watch over you tonight. May he meet every need you could not name, give rest to the tired body and the restless mind, and bring you safely into the morning. Let his faithfulness be the last thing you remember as you fall asleep.
