This evening prayer for forgiveness and healing is meant for the close of the day, when the house has gone quiet and the mistakes and aches of the hours behind you are still close to the surface. Pray it before you sleep, whether you kneel by the bed, sit in a chair, or lie still in the dark. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words in its shape.
Evening Prayer for Forgiveness and Healing
Lord, the day is ending, and I bring it to you as it is. I have said things I wish I had not said, and I have left undone things I knew I should have done. Forgive me for the impatience, the pride, and the careless words that hurt the people I love. Where I have carried resentment, loosen its grip on me tonight. Show me whom I need to ask for pardon, and give me the courage to do it when morning comes.
I also bring you my body and my worry. You know the pain I have been quietly managing and the fear I have not wanted to name aloud. Touch what is sore, heal what is tired, and steady what is anxious. Let the healing begin in the places no one else can see. Guard my sleep, and let my rest be real rather than just a pause before the next crisis. Thank you for the small mercies of this day, the good conversation, the hot meal, the unexpected kindness.
Stay with me through the night, Father. Keep watch over the people I love and over the ones I am still praying for. Whatever I could not finish, leave it in your hands. Whatever I could not fix, you can. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, I am tired and I know I have failed today. Forgive what I have done wrong, and heal what hurts in me and in the people I have hurt. Take my worry for tomorrow, and give me rest tonight. Thank you for being near me in the dark. Amen.

In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, the LORD alone, make me live in safety.

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.
(WEB)
Pray this passage when you are worn out by your own shortcomings. Give thanks that God’s compassion is renewed each morning, and ask him to meet you again when you wake.
How to Pray This Prayer
Choose a quiet time after the last task of the evening, ideally before you pick up your phone again. Sit or kneel in the same place each night if you can, such as beside the bed or at the kitchen table after the dishes are done. Keep a pen nearby so you can jot down anything you remember you need to apologize for or follow up on, then pray through that short list before you close your eyes.
This prayer also works well shared. A spouse, a roommate, or a child old enough to speak can take turns reading the lines, and a family can pray it together before bed. If you are praying for someone who is sick or grieving, read the prayer aloud while holding their hand or while placing a hand on their shoulder, and let the names and needs in it be theirs.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord forgive every failure of this day and heal what has been wounded in you. May his peace settle over your home and your sleep, and may you wake to mercies that are new. Rest well, and be held through the night.
