This evening prayer is for anyone who wants to bring their body, their worries about it, and their hope for healing to God before going to sleep. Pray it at the end of the day, once the house is quiet and before you close your eyes. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and put your own concerns in your own words.
Evening Prayer for My Health
Lord, the day is ending, and I bring my body to You as it is tonight. You know the tiredness I carry, the ache that has not gone away, and the test results I keep turning over in my mind. You know the doctor’s words I am still trying to understand and the fear that comes at odd hours. I am grateful for the strength You gave me today, even in the small things like walking to the kitchen, sitting up, or breathing without pain. Thank You for the people who checked on me and the care I received.
Father, I ask You to heal what is broken and to steady what is weak. Give wisdom to the doctors, nurses, and caregivers who are working on my behalf, and help me follow the care I have been given with patience. Where I am anxious about what comes next, quiet my heart and remind me that You have not lost track of me. Guard my sleep tonight, ease the pain where it lingers, and let my body rest in Your care. Whatever tomorrow brings, I want to trust that You are already there. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, I am tired, and my body is weighing on me tonight. Hold my health in Your hands and heal what needs healing. Give the people caring for me wisdom, and give me peace where I am afraid. Let me sleep, and let me wake up knowing You were with me through the night. Thank You for the strength You have given me today. Amen.
Scriptures to Pray Alongside
Psalm 103:2-3
2 Praise the LORD, my soul, and don’t forget all his benefits; 3 who forgives all your sins; who heals all your diseases…
(WEB)
Read this slowly and let it become your own thanks for the good things God has done, including the ways He has already sustained your body. Then ask Him to continue that work in the areas where you still need healing.
Psalm 4:8
In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, the LORD alone, make me live in safety.
(WEB)
Pray this verse as you lie down, reminding yourself that rest is a gift God gives and not something you have to earn. Let the picture of safe, unafraid sleep settle your thoughts before you drift off.
Isaiah 40:29
He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might.
(WEB)
Bring this verse to God when your strength feels used up. Ask Him to give you the power you lack, especially in the parts of your body that are weakest tonight.
Psalm 121:3-4
3 He will not allow your foot to be moved. He who keeps you will not slumber. 4 Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
(WEB)
Use this verse to ask for watchful protection through the night. Pray that God, who never sleeps, would keep your body and mind safe while you rest.
Matthew 11:28
“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.
(WEB)
Take this invitation personally and bring your weariness, both physical and emotional, to Jesus. Pray that you would feel His rest in the places where you have been carrying your health concerns alone.
How to Pray This Prayer
Choose a quiet time in the evening, after you have washed up or turned off the screens, and sit or lie down in a place where you feel comfortable. Some people find it helpful to rest one hand on the part of the body that is hurting, or to place a hand on their chest while they breathe slowly. Pray the longer prayer if you have time, or the shorter one if you are exhausted and need something simple.
If someone you love is ill, or if you have a family member who helps with your care, you can pray this prayer together before bed. Speaking the words aloud with another person can make the burden feel lighter. You can also write the prayer on a card and keep it by your bed to read on nights when the fear feels loud.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord who keeps watch over His people guard your body and your rest tonight. May He ease every pain, steady every fear, and give you the peace that comes from knowing you are held. May you wake refreshed and ready to face the morning in His strength.
