This evening prayer is for the end of the day, when you want to bring your husband before God before you both lie down. Pray it at bedtime, after the dishes are done and the house is quiet, or at whatever hour the two of you finally sit still. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Evening Prayer for My Husband

Lord, thank You for the day that is now ending. Thank You for the work my husband did, for the people he spoke with, and for every small mercy that met us along the way. Where he was tired, strengthen him. Where he was frustrated, calm his heart. If he carried worries home with him tonight, take them from his shoulders and hold them for him, because I know he cannot carry them alone.

I ask You to guard his sleep. Let his mind slow down instead of racing through tomorrow’s meetings, bills, and decisions. Remind him that he does not have to solve everything before morning. Keep him safe through the dark hours, and let him wake rested and ready to meet the new day with a steady spirit. Watch over his body, his health, and his going out and coming in.

Father, bless the bond between us. Forgive any word we said today that cut deeper than we meant, and help us make peace before we close our eyes. Keep our marriage close to You and let it be a place of rest rather than strain. Thank You for giving him to me. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, my husband is weary tonight. Give him rest in body and mind, and quiet the worries he has not spoken aloud. Keep him safe while he sleeps, and help us both wake to a fresh morning with gratitude. Thank You for him, and for the gift of sharing this life with him. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 4:8

In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, the LORD alone, make me live in safety.

(WEB)

Pray this verse over your husband as he settles into bed, asking God to give him the kind of peace that lets him truly rest. It reminds both of you that safety at night comes from the Lord, not from our own vigilance.

Psalm 127:2

It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, eating the bread of toil; for he gives sleep to his loved ones.

(WEB)

Use this verse to release the pressure of work and provision into God’s hands. Ask Him to help your husband stop striving through the evening and trust that his labor does not depend on his sleepless effort.

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

(WEB)

Read this slowly as you pray for him, naming the burdens you know he carries. Invite Jesus to take the heaviest of them, and ask that your husband would feel the relief of coming to Him at the close of the day.

1 Peter 5:7

Casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you.

(WEB)

Bring your husband’s anxieties to God by name as you pray this verse. Ask that he would hand over the worries that keep him awake and let God hold what he cannot control.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

End your prayer with this promise of God’s fresh mercies each morning. Thank Him that tomorrow brings new compassion, and ask that your husband would wake expecting to see that faithfulness again.

How to Pray This Prayer

Many couples find it helps to pray this in the bedroom just before the lights go out, with a hand resting on your husband’s arm or shoulder. If he is already asleep, you can pray quietly beside him, speaking softly so that the words become part of the room. Keeping a small notebook on the nightstand can also help you record what he is facing that week, so your prayers can return to those specific needs night after night.

If you are not yet praying together, you might ask him whether he would like you to pray for him at night. Some husbands welcome this gladly, and others need time to warm to it. Whatever his response, you can still pray in private, and you may find that other trusted people, such as a close friend or a small group from church, would be glad to lift him up as well.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord keep your husband in His care tonight and give him rest that restores both body and soul. May His peace guard his heart and his mind through the quiet hours. As the morning comes, may he rise with renewed strength, knowing he is loved and held by God.
