This evening prayer is for the end of a day when you are still turning over a decision, a conversation, or a question you cannot yet name clearly. It asks God for wisdom to recognize his voice, peace to set the uncertainty down for the night, and a clear mind by morning. Pray it at bedtime, once the day’s noise has quieted. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words in the same spirit.

Evening Prayer for Spiritual Discernment

Lord, the day is ending, and I am bringing you what I could not sort out in it. There were choices I had to make and voices pulling me in different directions. Some of what I heard was good, and some of it was loud, and I am not always sure which is which. Help me trust that you are not hiding your will from me. Show me what is true and what is only my own fear or wanting.

Tonight I release the decisions I am carrying, the ones about work, family, money, and the people I am tempted to please more than you. Quiet the anxious replaying in my mind. Let me rest in the truth that you know the road ahead even when I can see only the next step. If I have already been drawn toward something good, confirm it. If I have been drifting, gently turn me back.

Guard my sleep and guard my heart while I rest. Let whatever you want to teach me settle deep in me, so that I wake with a steadier sense of what to do and who to trust. Thank you for the ways you have guided me already, even when I did not recognize them. I belong to you, and I can rest in that. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, I am tired and I do not have all the answers tonight. Show me what is true and give me the peace to wait for what I cannot yet see. Quiet my fears and lead me in your ways. Keep me tonight, and make my next step clear when morning comes. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Pray these words when you are tempted to trust only what you can see or work out yourself. Ask God to turn your reliance toward him and to make your path straight where you feel stuck tonight.

James 1:5

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him.

(WEB)

Bring your need for wisdom to God plainly, the way a child asks a parent. Ask him to give generously and without holding your uncertainty against you, and thank him ahead of time for the answer.

Psalm 119:105

Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path.

(WEB)

Ask God to let his word be a lamp for your feet, even if it only lights the next step. Pray that you would read Scripture tomorrow with fresh attention to what he is showing you.

John 10:27

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.

(WEB)

Pray that you would learn to hear the voice of Jesus above the other voices around you. Ask him to make you familiar with his voice through prayer, Scripture, and the company of his people.

Romans 12:2

Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God.

(WEB)

Ask God to renew your mind so that his will becomes clearer to you over time. Pray that the habits of your thinking would be reshaped by his truth, so that discernment grows as you walk with him.

How to Pray This Prayer

Pray this prayer at the end of the day, after the lights are low and before you reach for your phone or fall asleep. Sitting on the edge of your bed or holding a cup of water can help your body settle while your mind slows down. If you want to be more deliberate, write down one decision or question on a card and place it beside you as you pray, then leave it there until morning.

You can also invite someone you trust to pray this with you, whether a spouse, a friend, or a small group. Speaking your uncertainty aloud to another believer often brings clarity that silent worry does not. If you are praying on behalf of someone else who is facing a hard choice, read the prayer in the first person and let it become your shared request before God.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who knows the end from the beginning give you rest tonight and clear sight tomorrow. May he make his voice familiar to you and his peace steady in your heart. May you wake knowing that you are held, guided, and loved by the God who has not forgotten you.
