When you feel rejected, these Bible verses give you truth to stand on when people have turned away, overlooked you, or left you out. The list is for anyone who has been passed over, dismissed, or quietly excluded and needs to hear what God says about their value. Each verse below points to the same source: a God who does not reject the people He loves, and who sees you clearly even when others do not.

Verses for the Moment the Door Closes

Rejection often hits in a single moment: a message left unanswered, a decision made without you, a friend who simply stopped calling. These verses speak to that first sting and remind you where your acceptance actually comes from.

Psalm 27:10

When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up.

(WEB)

David wrote this when even his own family might abandon him, and he names God as the one who gathers him in. Try saying this verse out loud in the car after a painful conversation, letting it replace the replay of what was said.

Isaiah 54:10

For the mountains may depart, and the hills be removed; but my loving kindness will not depart from you, and my covenant of peace will not be removed,” says the LORD who has mercy on you.

(WEB)

God speaks here of a covenant of peace that does not waver, even when mountains and hills shake. Write the word “steadfast” on a sticky note and place it where you will see it the next time you check your phone for an answer.

Romans 8:38-39

38 For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from God’s love, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

(WEB)

Paul lists the forces that might seem able to separate us from love and then declares that none of them can. When someone’s rejection feels like the largest thing in your life, read this list slowly and notice how many things Paul names that are not on it.

Verses for Lonely Evenings

The hardest hours of rejection are often the quiet ones, after the day is over and no one is around to talk to. These verses speak to loneliness and the ache of feeling forgotten.

Psalm 68:5-6

5 A father of the fatherless, and a defender of the widows, is God in his holy habitation. 6 God sets the lonely in families. He brings out the prisoners with singing, but the rebellious dwell in a sun-scorched land.

(WEB)

God is described as a father to the fatherless and a defender of widows, and as the one who sets the lonely in families. Before bed, name one person or situation where you feel left out, and ask God to be the one who gives you a place.

Deuteronomy 31:6

Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid or scared of them; for the LORD your God himself is who goes with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you.”

(WEB)

Moses tells the people that the Lord goes with them and will not fail or forsake them. Repeat the words “he will not leave you” slowly as you lie down, letting the rhythm settle your breathing.

Hebrews 13:5

Be free from the love of money, content with such things as you have, for he has said, “I will in no way leave you, neither will I in any way forsake you.”

(WEB)

The writer quotes God’s promise never to leave or abandon us, and encourages believers to be content with what they have. Notice where your mind goes when you feel unwanted, and gently bring it back to the promise that God’s presence is not conditional.

Verses for Rebuilding Your Sense of Worth

Rejection can slowly convince us that we are the problem. These verses help you separate what others have said or done from what God has said about who you are.

Psalm 139:14

I will give thanks to you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful. My soul knows that very well.

(WEB)

The psalmist praises God for making him in a wonderful and intricate way. When the voice of rejection is loud, write this verse on a card and read it aloud each morning as a way of telling yourself the truth about how you were made.

1 Peter 2:4

Coming to him, a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God, precious.

(WEB)

Peter describes Jesus as a living stone rejected by people but chosen and precious to God. If you have been turned away, take comfort that the Lord Himself was rejected and still counted as precious in the Father’s eyes.

Ephesians 1:4-5

4 Even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and without defect before him in love; 5 having predestined us for adoption as children through Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his desire…

(WEB)

Paul says we were chosen in Christ before the foundation of the world and adopted as God’s children. Consider one small way you could act from this identity today, such as offering kindness to someone else who feels left out.

Verses for Facing the Next Step

After rejection, the next step can feel too heavy to take. These verses encourage you to keep moving forward with courage and trust.

Joshua 1:9

Haven’t I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid. Don’t be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

(WEB)

God commands Joshua to be strong and courageous because the Lord is with him wherever he goes. Before a difficult conversation or application, pray this verse over yourself and ask for courage to show up as you are.

Psalm 34:18

The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit.

(WEB)

The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Let this verse guide your prayers when you feel too tender to try again, trusting that God draws close in exactly that place.

Philippians 4:13

I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.

(WEB)

Paul writes that he can do all things through Christ who strengthens him. Use this verse for small steps, like sending one message or going to one gathering, rather than for everything at once.

How to Use These Verses

Write the verses that speak most to you on index cards or in a notes app on your phone, so they are with you when rejection strikes unexpectedly. Keep one card in your wallet, another on your bathroom mirror, and read them at the moments you know are hard, like before opening your email or after a social event that left you out.

Read a verse slowly, then pause and ask God what He wants you to notice about it. You might pray the words back to Him in your own language, saying something like “Lord, you do not reject me, so help me believe that today.” Returning to the same few verses over several weeks will often do more than reading a long list once.

A Short Prayer for when you feel rejected

Lord, when people turn away from me, it hurts, and I do not always know what to do with the pain. Thank you that you have not turned away from me. Help me to hear your voice above the voices that have hurt me, and remind me that my worth is rooted in your love and not in anyone’s approval. Give me courage for the next step, and let your presence be the place I return to when the day grows quiet. Amen.
