This is a simple prayer for the days when your faith feels thin, distant, or simply worn out. You can pray it in the morning before the day begins, in the car between errands, or late at night when doubts feel loudest. Read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words once you find your footing.

Simple Prayer When Your Faith Feels Weak

Lord, I come to you honestly today. My faith feels weak. Some mornings prayer feels like talking into an empty room, and I wonder whether anything I say reaches you. I have questions I am afraid to say out loud, and I am tired of pretending everything is fine when it is not. Thank you that you already know the state of my heart, and that you are not put off by it.

Help me hold on to what I know to be true even when I cannot feel it. You are faithful when I am not. You have kept your promises through every generation, and you have not grown weary of the people who come to you with a small and shaking trust. Give me enough light for the next step, and enough quiet to hear you speak. Meet me in the ordinary places of my life, the kitchen, the commute, the sleepless hours, and remind me that you are near.

I ask you to strengthen what is fragile and to be patient with what is still growing. Let this small honest prayer be enough for today. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, my faith is weak right now, and I do not have much to offer you. I am asking you to hold me anyway. Be near me in this minute, steady my thoughts, and help me trust you with the next hour and not the whole week. You know what I need before I ask. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Mark 9:24

Immediately the father of the child cried out with tears, “I believe. Help my unbelief!”

(WEB)

This verse comes from a father who asks Jesus to help his son and then admits his own unbelief in the same breath. Pray it as your own confession: you believe, and you also need help with the places where you do not. It gives you permission to be honest rather than polished.

Psalm 46:1

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

(WEB)

When your faith feels weak, it helps to remember where your help comes from rather than how strong you feel. Pray this psalm slowly, naming the troubles that press on you, and then naming God as the refuge over them. Let the words shift your attention from your own grip to his.

Isaiah 40:29

He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might.

(WEB)

Isaiah speaks of God giving strength to the weary and power to the faint. Pray this verse when you feel drained and small, asking God to supply what you lack. It reminds you that weakness is not the end of the story in his hands.

Romans 8:26

In the same way, the Spirit also helps our weaknesses, for we don’t know how to pray as we ought. But the Spirit himself makes intercession for us with groanings which can’t be uttered.

(WEB)

Paul writes that the Spirit helps us in our weakness, especially when we do not know how to pray. Use this verse when words fail you completely. Thank God that he is interceding for you even when your own prayers feel thin and uncertain.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

In the middle of a book of grief, the writer remembers that God’s mercies are new every morning. Pray these verses at the start of a day when yesterday left you discouraged. Ask God to renew your trust with the morning light.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a set time and place, such as your coffee before the house wakes up or a bench during your lunch break. Keep your hands busy with something simple, like holding a warm mug, a prayer journal, or the steering wheel, so your body stays engaged while your mind wanders. If you feel too dry to pray at all, read it aloud slowly, pausing after each sentence to let it land.

You can also ask a trusted friend, spouse, or small group leader to pray this prayer with you or over you. Many people find that hearing someone else say the words helps them believe them again. Do not worry about getting the words right; God hears the longing beneath them.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who sees your weakness meet you with patient, steady grace. May he give you courage for the next step and rest for the places that ache. Your faith may be small today, but it is held by one who is faithful, and he will not let it go.
