This morning prayer for generosity is written for the start of your day, before the emails, errands and conversations begin. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and put your own words to the needs you already know you will meet today. It asks God to open your hands and your heart before the first demand on your time or money arrives.
Morning Prayer for Generosity
Father, I come to You before the day starts pulling at me. You have given me more than I have ever needed, and I thank You for it. This morning I ask You to loosen my grip on what is mine, so that I see my money, my time and my energy as gifts passing through my hands rather than possessions I must guard. Remind me that everything I have came from You in the first place.
Lord, help me notice the people You put in front of me today. The cashier who looks tired, the coworker who is quiet in the meeting, the neighbor whose car is still in the driveway with a flat tire. Give me eyes to see who needs a word, a meal, a ride or a little of my patience, and give me the courage to act without waiting for a perfect moment. Let me not be the person who walks past because it is inconvenient.
When I am tempted to think I cannot afford to give, remind me of the widow who gave her last coins and was seen by You. Teach me to trust that You provide for the open hand. Shape my choices today, from the way I spend to the way I speak, so that I reflect Your own generosity to the people around me. Use me, Lord, for Your good purposes. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, I am already rushing, and I need Your help to slow down and give. Open my hands before I reach for my phone or my wallet. Show me one person today who needs what I can offer, and make me willing to offer it freely. Let my giving this day point others back to You. Amen.

Pray this passage for the people you will meet today. Ask God to show you how Jesus is present in the hungry, the lonely and the unwell, and to open your heart to serve them.
How to Pray This Prayer
Try praying this before you check your phone, while your coffee is still hot or during the few minutes you have before the house wakes up. Sit near a window or somewhere quiet, and keep a pen nearby. If a name or situation comes to mind while you pray, write it down so you can act on it later in the day, whether that means a text, a donation or a phone call.
If you share your morning with a spouse, child or roommate, read the prayer together and ask each person to name one person they hope to bless that day. You can also pray it for someone who struggles to be generous, asking God to soften their heart as you would your own. Let the prayer become a daily habit rather than a one-time request.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord who gave you everything fill your hands with good work today. May He make you a channel of His kindness to the people you meet, and may you find that the more you give, the more you know the nearness of God. Go into this day open, unhurried and full of grace.
