This morning prayer is for asking God to guide your work before the first meeting, email, or task of the day. Pray it when you wake, in the car on the way in, or at your desk before you open your inbox. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Morning Prayer for My Work

Lord, I come to you before the day gets loud. You know what is waiting for me at work: the deadlines I have been carrying, the conversations I would rather avoid, and the people I will see before lunch. Give me a clear mind when I sit down to focus, and let my first hour be spent on what matters most rather than whatever shouts the loudest. Help me to remember that my work is not separate from my faith, and that you are present in the ordinary tasks as much as in the big moments.

Father, I ask for patience with my colleagues and my manager. Where tension has been building, soften my heart and guard my tongue. If someone comes to me today confused, frustrated, or hurting, let me be steady and kind. Give me the honesty to admit what I do not know, the humility to ask for help, and the courage to say no when a request would cost me my integrity or my family’s time. Make my effort honest and my results good, and keep me from measuring my worth by my output alone.

Thank you that you have already gone ahead of me into this day. Whatever I finish and whatever I leave undone, I trust you with the outcome. Let my work today reflect your care for the people I serve, and let me come home at the end of it with a grateful heart. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I am heading into work and I need you right now. Settle my thoughts, sharpen my focus, and help me treat the people I meet with respect. Show me the next right step, and give me grace when I fall short. I trust you with today’s tasks and their outcomes. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Colossians 3:23

And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men…

(WEB)

Pray this verse by asking God to change how you approach your tasks today. Ask him to help you work with sincere effort, not just to satisfy a boss or a schedule, but as a way of serving him in the ordinary hours of the day.

Proverbs 16:3

Commit your deeds to the LORD, and your plans shall succeed.

(WEB)

Bring your plans for the day to God in prayer and ask him to establish them. Name the projects and decisions you are facing, and surrender the results to him while asking for wisdom in carrying them out.

Psalm 90:17

Let the favor of the Lord our God be on us; establish the work of our hands for us; yes, establish the work of our hands.

(WEB)

Ask the Lord to let his favor rest on your work, and to make the efforts of your hands count for something lasting. Pray this especially over work that feels repetitive or unseen, asking him to give it meaning.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Use this passage to surrender the decisions you cannot see clearly yet. Ask God to direct your steps through the uncertain parts of the day, and to help you lean on him rather than on your own quick judgment.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

When work stress begins to rise, pray this passage as a reset. Bring each worry about deadlines, budgets, or relationships to God with thanksgiving, and ask for the calm that guards your heart and mind throughout the day.

How to Pray This Prayer

Pray it at a set time each morning, such as while the coffee brews, during your commute before you start the car, or at your desk for two quiet minutes before you check messages. Keep a short written list of the three most important tasks or people you will meet, and read it aloud as you pray so the prayer stays specific to your real day.

If you have a spouse, friend, or coworker who also works, invite them to pray this prayer with you or to pray it for you. You can also hold your hands open in your lap or place a hand on your desk as a physical reminder that you are handing the day to God. Pray it again if your plans change partway through the morning.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord go before them into every meeting, task, and conversation today. May he give them clear thinking, honest words, and steady hands, and may they feel his presence in the work they do.
