This morning prayer is for anyone who wakes up already tired, discouraged or carrying a heavy weight into the day. It is written to be read aloud before you check your phone or start your first task, and it can be prayed exactly as written or used as a starting point for your own words. Take a minute to breathe slowly, then pray it slowly.
Morning Prayer for Those Who Need Encouragement
Lord, I come to you before the day has a chance to crowd in. Some of us wake up with a knot in the stomach, already rehearsing the conversation with the boss, the bill that is due, the child who is struggling, or the diagnosis we are still trying to understand. Meet me in that tightness. You know every worry I am carrying, and you are not surprised by any of them.
Give me courage for the people I will meet today. Help me to be patient with the coworker who snaps, gentle with the family member who is grieving, and honest with the friend who asks how I am really doing. Where I feel worn thin, fill the gap with your strength. Where I feel invisible, remind me that you see me clearly and that my days matter to you.
Father, let this day be one where I remember I am not walking alone. Steady my thoughts when they spin, lift my eyes when they fall, and let your peace settle on me before the first hard moment arrives. I place this day in your hands, trusting you with what I cannot control. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, I need you this morning. I feel weary and a little afraid of what the day will bring. Be near me in the first hour and in every hour after it. Give me enough courage for the next task, enough patience for the next person, and enough hope to keep going. Hold me steady until evening. Amen.

(WEB)
Read this passage slowly as a way of handing your anxious thoughts to God one at a time. Let each worry become a short prayer, and ask for the peace that guards the heart and mind to settle in before you step out the door.
How to Pray This Prayer
Try praying this prayer while you are still sitting on the edge of your bed, before the phone, the news or the to-do list takes over. Keep a cup of water or a cup of coffee in your hands while you speak, so your body has something steady to hold while your mind slows down. If the words feel heavy, read one sentence at a time and pause after each.
It can also help to pray this prayer with someone else, such as a spouse, roommate or friend who is also struggling this season. Ask them to pray it with you over the phone or over breakfast, and agree to check in later in the day. Shared prayer reminds us that encouragement is something we give to one another as well as receive from God.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord go before you into this day and walk beside you through every hour. May he strengthen your hands for the work in front of you and comfort your heart where it is tender. May his peace guard you when the day grows loud, and may you carry his encouragement into every person you meet.
