This morning prayer is written for expectant mothers who want to begin the day by placing their pregnancy, their body, and their growing child in God’s hands. Pray it as you wake, before the day’s first demands arrive, and read it aloud exactly as written or use it as a starting point for words of your own.

Morning Prayers for Expectant Mothers

Lord, I wake up carrying a child I can feel moving inside me, and I thank You for this new day and for the life You are knitting together in me. Some mornings I feel strong and hopeful, and other mornings I feel tired, nervous, or sick to my stomach. Whatever this morning feels like, I want to start it with You. Be near me as I get up, as I make my way to the kitchen, and as I think about the appointment, the work, the groceries, and the people I will see today.

I ask for peace about the things I cannot control: the baby’s health, the timing of labor, the decisions still ahead of me, and the fears that keep me awake at night. Steady my heart when worry rises. Give my body the rest and nourishment it needs, and give my partner, my family, and my friends the patience to care for me well. Help me to trust that I am not doing this alone. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, thank You for this new morning and for the child You are forming in me. Settle my nerves, steady my breathing, and help me trust that You are caring for both of us today. Give me enough strength for what is in front of me and enough grace for the moments I feel afraid. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 139:13-14

13 For you formed my inmost being. You knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14 I will give thanks to you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful. My soul knows that very well.

Read this verse slowly as you pray for your baby, thanking God that the child was known and shaped with care long before you first felt movement. Let its wonder replace any anxious thought about whether the pregnancy is progressing as it should.

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

Bring this promise to God when fear wakes up with you. Repeat its phrases in your own words, asking for courage for the appointment, the labor ahead, and the long, unfamiliar days of caring for a newborn.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

Use this passage to turn each worry into a specific prayer. Name the concern out loud, thank God for something that has gone well, and then ask for the peace this verse describes to guard your heart and mind.

Psalm 127:3

Behold, children are a heritage of the LORD. The fruit of the womb is his reward.

Pray this verse as an act of gratitude for the gift of your child. Ask God to help you receive this season as a blessing, even on the days when the weight of pregnancy feels heavy.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

Let this verse anchor you on hard mornings, when you feel exhausted or discouraged. Ask God to renew you with fresh mercy today, trusting that His faithfulness does not depend on how you feel when you wake.

How to Pray This Prayer

Pray this prayer while you are still in bed, before you check your phone or start the first task of the day. Place one hand on your belly as you speak, and let that small, physical act remind you that God is with both of you. If you have a partner or family member at home, invite them to pray it with you, or ask them to pray for you while you are at work or running errands.

If the morning feels too rushed for a full prayer, keep the shorter version beside your bed or taped inside a kitchen cabinet, and read it while the kettle heats or your prenatal vitamin goes down with breakfast. Some expectant mothers find it helpful to keep a short note of the day’s concerns on the same page, so they can bring each one to God as they go through the day.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord go before you and beside you today, and may His peace guard your heart and the child you carry. May you rest in His strength when you feel weak, and may you sense His nearness in every quiet moment of this morning and beyond.
