This morning prayer is written for expectant parents who want to begin the day by placing their pregnancy, their fears, and their hopes before God. Pray it when you first wake up, before the phone and the to-do list take over, or during the quiet minutes while coffee brews. It can be read aloud exactly as written, or you can use it as a starting point and add the names, appointments, and worries that are on your heart today.

Morning Prayers for Expectant Parents

Lord, good morning. I wake up carrying a life that is not yet in my arms, and some mornings that feels like too much to hold. Today I bring you the appointment on the calendar, the strange tiredness that comes and goes, and the questions I have not been able to answer about money, housing, and whether we are ready. Steady my thoughts before they race ahead to what might go wrong. Help me to notice the good things today already contains, even the small ones.

Father, I ask for peace in the body that is growing this child. Watch over the baby and over me, and give my partner patience with my bad days and my moods. Give us wisdom for the decisions in front of us, and let us not be ruled by anxiety when we read the internet or hear someone else’s story. Go before us into the hours ahead, into the drive to work, the conversations, and the moments of waiting. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I am anxious about this pregnancy and about the day ahead. Hold the little one growing inside me, and hold me too. Give us calm for what is in front of us today, and remind me that you already know how this story goes. Help me to take one breath at a time and to trust you with what I cannot control. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 139:13-14

13 For you formed my inmost being. You knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14 I will give thanks to you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful. My soul knows that very well.

(WEB)

Pray these words when you feel unsure about your body or the baby’s development. They remind you that the child was known and formed with care long before any scan or test could show anything, and that the same God is at work today.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Use this passage when your worry starts to crowd out your morning. Bring each specific fear to God by name, and ask for the peace that guards the heart and mind, even before the situation changes.

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

(WEB)

Read this slowly when you feel alone in the decisions ahead. Let the promise of God’s presence and strength settle over the things you are about to face, one task at a time.

Psalm 127:3

Behold, children are a heritage of the LORD. The fruit of the womb is his reward.

(WEB)

Pray this when you are thinking about the child as a gift and not only as a list of needs. Thank God that children are a heritage from him, and ask him to help you receive this one with gratitude.

James 1:5

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him.

(WEB)

Turn to this verse when you face a choice about doctors, birth plans, or money. Ask God openly for wisdom, trusting that he gives it generously to those who ask without shame.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a fixed time in your morning, such as right after you get out of bed or while you sit with your first cup of tea. Keep a Bible, a notebook, or a note on your phone nearby so you can read the prayer and add to it. Some expectant parents find it helps to rest a hand on the belly while they pray, which turns the prayer into a small, physical act of trust.

Invite your partner, a close friend, or a parent to pray this with you once a week, or to pray it for you on the days you cannot find words. Shared prayer can lighten the load and remind you that you are part of a wider circle of people who care about the baby. Afterward, write down one thing you noticed during the day that you want to thank God for.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord go before you into this day and walk with you through every appointment, conversation, and quiet hour. May he keep the child growing within you safe and strong, and may he give you and your partner a deep and steady peace. May you rest in his faithfulness from morning until night.
