If you are looking for morning prayers for your relationship, this page gives you a prayer you can read aloud as it is written, or use as a starting point for your own words. Pray it when you first wake up, before your phone or the to-do list takes over your thoughts, and bring your partner, your hopes and your worries before God for the day ahead.

Morning Prayers for My Relationship

Lord, I start this day thinking of the person I love. Thank you for the gift of them and for the way you have held us together through good seasons and hard ones. Before I say a word or check a message, I ask you to meet us here, in our ordinary routines of coffee, car keys and quick goodbyes. Make me patient when I feel rushed, and make me kind when I would rather be right.

Help me to listen well today, especially when we disagree or when something they say catches me off guard. Guard my tongue from sharp words and my heart from silent resentment. Where I have been distant, soften me. Where I have been careless with their feelings, show me plainly and give me the courage to say I am sorry. Let our conversations, even the small ones about dinner or schedules, be seasoned with grace.

Father, go before us into this day. Protect our marriage, our friendship or whatever bond we share from the pressures of work, money, tiredness and temptation. Give us wisdom for the decisions ahead and open hands for the needs we will meet. Let us end this day closer to you and to each other than we began it. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I bring my relationship with [name] to you this morning. Help me love them with patience and honesty, and keep my words gentle. Show me where I need to change and where I need to trust you more. Go with us into this day. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

1 Corinthians 13:4

Love is patient and is kind; love doesn’t envy. Love doesn’t brag, is not proud…

(WEB)

Read this slowly before you speak to your partner today. Ask God to form patience and kindness in you so that your first response to them is shaped by love rather than irritation.

Ephesians 4:2

With all lowliness and humility, with patience, bearing with one another in love…

(WEB)

Pray this for the moments when you feel stretched thin. Ask for humility to give room to your partner’s weaknesses, and for gentleness to meet them where they are.

Colossians 3:13

Bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do.

(WEB)

Use this verse to prepare your heart for any hurt that may come up during the day. Ask God to help you forgive quickly and to let go of old grievances before they grow.

Proverbs 15:1

A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

(WEB)

Pray this as you think about tense conversations you might face. Ask for a calm voice and a soft answer, especially when your partner says something that stings.

Psalm 127:1

Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain who build it. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman guards it in vain.

(WEB)

Bring your home and your shared future before the Lord. Admit that you cannot build a lasting relationship on your own strength and ask him to be the foundation of your life together.

How to Pray This Prayer

Try praying this prayer while you are still in bed, or sitting on the edge of it with your feet on the floor, before the day’s noise begins. If you can, keep a cup of tea or coffee in your hands so your body has something to do while your mind settles. Pray slowly, pausing after each paragraph to let the words sink in.

If you share a home, consider praying it quietly beside your partner or simply in the same room while they are getting ready. If you are apart, pray it aloud as you make the bed or put on your shoes, and then send a short message to let them know you are thinking of them. You might also invite a close friend or mentor to pray it over your relationship with you.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord keep your relationship steady today. May he give you both patience when you are tired, honesty when it is hard and a tender heart toward one another. May his peace rest over your home and your conversations, and may you go into the day knowing you are not alone.
