This morning prayer is for the moment when you need to make peace with someone, or when a broken relationship is weighing on your mind before the day has even started. Pray it early, while the house is quiet or on the drive in, before the conversations and tasks begin. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.
Morning Prayers for Reconciliation
Lord, I wake up with this person on my mind. There is a distance between us that I have been carrying for days, maybe longer, and I do not want to walk into today pretending it is not there. You know what was said, what was left unsaid, and what I hoped the other person would understand about me. Give me the honesty to see my own part in this without excusing it or drowning in it.
Soften my heart before I speak to them, and soften theirs in ways I cannot force. Give me the right words for the hard conversation, and the patience to listen when they answer. Where I need to apologize, let me do it plainly and without a list of reasons. Where I need to forgive, help me release the account I keep replaying, even when the feeling does not arrive on schedule.
Go ahead of me into this day. Work in the meetings, the phone calls, the errands, and the moments in between where a tense word could slip out. Keep me from trying to win. Let me want peace more than I want to be right. Thank you that you reconcile people to yourself and to one another, and that you are not waiting for me to be perfect before you help. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Father, I am carrying a break between myself and someone I love. Show me my part and give me the courage to take the first step toward them today. Soften what is hard in me and in them. Let my words this morning be gentle and true. Help me trust you with the outcome. Amen.
Scriptures to Pray Alongside

How to Pray This Prayer
Choose a time before your first real demand of the day, such as after your coffee and before you check messages. Sit somewhere you can be alone, and if you can, write the name of the person on a sticky note and place it where you will see it. Some people find it helps to hold a pen or a cup while they pray, giving their hands something steady to do while their hearts settle.
If you share a home or a household, ask someone you trust to pray this with you or for you. A spouse, a friend, or a small group member can keep you accountable to take the step you described. Come back to the prayer at lunchtime or in the evening to notice what has shifted, and thank God for each small movement toward peace.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord who reconciles us to himself go before this person and this day. May he give them and you the grace to speak truthfully, listen well, and walk toward one another in peace. May the Lord keep your hearts soft and your steps unhurried today.
