This prayer is for the start of your day, when you want to come back to God before the noise of work, messages and obligations gets loud. Pray it when you first wake up, while the coffee is brewing, or in the car before you walk into the day. It can be read aloud exactly as written, or you can use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.
Morning Prayers for Spiritual Renewal
Lord, thank you for this new morning. I did not make it, and I do not have to earn it. Before I check my phone or make a list, I want to stop and remember that you are awake and near. Some of my mornings start with dread, and some start with my mind already racing ahead to meetings, bills, and conversations I am not ready for. Slow me down. Let my first thought be of you and not of what I have to fix today.
Renew what has grown dull in me. I have been going through the motions in prayer, reading your Word out of habit, and feeling far from you even when I am doing all the right things. Stir up my love for you again. Give me hunger for your presence and a willingness to be honest about where I have drifted. Where I have grown cynical, soften me. Where I have grown tired, give me strength that comes from you and not from my own effort. Help me today with the people I will meet: the coworker who frustrates me, the family member who needs patience, the stranger who needs a kind word. Let your Spirit work in me before I work on anything else. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Father, I am starting this day in need of you. Renew my heart and quiet my mind. Remind me that I belong to you before I do anything else. Give me patience with the people I love, honesty in my work, and kindness toward those who are hard to like. Keep me close to you today, one step at a time. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Try to pray this prayer before your phone or your to-do list takes over your attention. Sit in a chair near a window if you can, or stand at the kitchen sink while you wait for the water to boil. Keeping your hands busy with something simple, like holding a mug or opening your Bible, can help your body settle while your mind catches up. If you have a Bible, read one of the scriptures above slowly and then pray it back to God in your own words.
You can also pray this prayer with a spouse, a roommate, or a friend who is starting a hard season. Take turns reading lines aloud, or pray the shorter version together over each other before you part ways for the day. A few minutes of shared prayer at the beginning of the day often carries into the way you treat each other later on.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord renew your heart and steady your steps this morning. May his mercy meet you before the first demand of the day does. May you walk into your work and your relationships with a quiet strength that comes from knowing you are loved, and may that peace stay with you long after the coffee is gone.
