This night prayer is for the close of the day when you want to commit your daughter to God before she sleeps. It is best prayed at bedtime, beside her bed or in the quiet after the lights go out, and you can read it aloud as written or use it as a starting point for your own words. Either way, it gives you a clear way to hand her rest, worries and tomorrow into God’s keeping.

Night Prayer for My Daughter

Father, thank You for the day we have just finished. Thank You for the small mercies in it: the laughter at breakfast, the homework finished, the moment she came to me with something on her heart. Some things went well and some did not, and I bring all of it to You now. Where she felt unsure, be her steady ground. Where she was hurt or left out, be her comfort. Where she was proud or unkind, forgive her, and give her a heart that is quick to repent and quick to love.

Lord, I ask You to guard her sleep tonight. Surround her room with Your peace, and let no fear or bad dream take hold of her. Watch over her body as she rests, and watch over her mind so that the worries of school, friendships and growing up do not follow her into the dark. Give her a sense that she is known and loved by You, even when no one else is awake to see her. Let her wake refreshed, ready to meet whatever the morning brings.

I release my own grip on her future too. I cannot protect her from everything, and I do not have to. You know the road ahead better than I do, and You love her more than I ever could. Hold her in the years I cannot see. Make her brave, make her kind, and make her someone who walks close to You. Thank You for hearing me. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, my daughter is ready for sleep, and I am thankful for her. Hold her tonight and keep her safe in the dark. Quiet her heart, cover her with Your peace, and guard her dreams. Let her wake up knowing she is loved by You and by me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a time when the house is settling, perhaps after brushing teeth and before the final goodnight. Sit on the edge of her bed or stand in the doorway, and let your hand rest on her shoulder or blanket if she is willing. Keeping your hand on her while you pray gives both of you something steady to hold on to.

If your daughter is older or you are praying from another room, pray the words quietly on your own and then leave her a short note or text that says you prayed for her. You could also invite your spouse or another trusted adult to pray with you, so that she hears more than one voice asking God for her good.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless her and keep her through the night. May He make His face shine upon her and give her peace that is deeper than her worries. May she sleep soundly, wake gladly, and know that she is cherished by the God who never sleeps.
