This night prayer is for anyone who lies down with a body that feels tired, sore, or uncertain and wants to hand that health to God before sleep. It is best prayed at bedtime, once the day’s medicine, meals and worries have been set aside for the evening. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words in the spaces it leaves open.
Night Prayer for My Health
Lord, the day is ending and I bring you my body as it is tonight. You know every ache in my back, every tightness in my chest, and every tired moment that crept in while I was busy with other things. I do not have to understand all of it to give it to you. Please keep watch over my heart, my lungs, my stomach, and my mind, and let whatever is weak in me be strengthened by your care while I sleep.
I also bring you the appointments, the test results I am still waiting on, and the questions I have not been able to answer. Give wisdom to the doctors and nurses who look after me, and give me patience to follow the care I have been given. Where I am afraid of what the body might do next, quiet that fear and remind me that you are not surprised by anything. Let me rest without tensing up over tomorrow’s symptoms.
Thank you for the small mercies of this day: the food I was able to eat, the breath I drew without struggle, the friend who checked on me, and the moments of strength I did not expect. Renew whatever has been drained from me, and give me sleep that truly restores. Guard me through the night, and wake me in the morning with a little more strength than I went to bed with. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Father, I am tired and my body is asking for care. Hold my health in your hands tonight. Keep the pain manageable, steady my breathing, and let my sleep be deep and untroubled. Watch over those who treat me, and give me courage for whatever comes tomorrow. I trust you with what I cannot control. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Choose a quiet time in the last hour before bed, when screens are off and the lights are low. Sit on the edge of the bed or lie down with one hand resting on your chest or stomach, the place where you feel the health concern most. Let the physical touch remind you that God meets you in your body, not only in your thoughts.
If you live with someone who shares your home, invite them to pray the prayer with you or to read the verses aloud while you listen. A spouse, adult child, or close friend can also pray it for you on nights when you are too weary to speak. Keep a notebook beside the bed so you can write down any new symptom or question and hand it to God before you close your eyes.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord keep you through the night and guard your body while you rest. May he steady your breathing, calm your heart, and fill your sleep with peace. May he remind you tomorrow that his care went with you into the dark, and that you wake in his keeping.
