This night prayer is for anyone who has worked today and is now ready to set the day down. Pray it in the evening or at bedtime, once the last task is closed and before the mind starts replaying tomorrow’s list. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.
Night Prayer for Those Working Today
Lord, the day is ending, and I am bringing you everything it held. I bring the emails I answered too quickly, the meeting that ran long, the customer who was short with me, and the work I did not finish. I bring the tiredness in my shoulders and the ache in my feet. Where I was careless, forgive me. Where I was faithful, thank you for strengthening my hands and steadying my mind when I could not do it alone. Some of today’s pressure was mine to carry, and some was not, so I ask you to show me which is which and to take the rest from me.
Father, I give you the people I work beside and the people I answer to. Be with my coworkers who are worried about money, health or family, and be with those who will wake up to a hard shift tomorrow. Guard my income and my job, and let my work be honest and useful even when no one notices. Keep my home safe tonight, and keep my body and mind from the restless habit of running the day again. Let sleep come as a gift, not a struggle. I trust you with what I could not finish, and I trust you with what I must face when morning comes. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, I am done for today. Take what I could not finish and what I did badly, and receive what I did with care. Calm my thoughts, ease my body, and watch over the people I love and the people I work with. Let me rest without guilt and wake without dread. Keep me safe through the night. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Choose a place where you can sit or lie down without a screen in your hand, such as your bed, a chair by the window, or the edge of the sofa. Before you begin, put your phone face down or across the room, because the day’s messages will wait until morning. If your hands are restless, hold a glass of water, a warm mug, or the back of a chair while you pray, so your body has something to rest on.
This prayer also works well for a spouse, a roommate, or a friend who is going to bed after a hard shift. One person can read it aloud while the other listens, or you can each pray a paragraph in turn. Pray it again on nights when the day went badly, and let the same words hold you steady whether the work went well or poorly.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord who kept you through the day keep you through the night. May he quiet every worry that tries to follow you to bed, and grant you the deep rest your body and soul need. May he meet you again with mercy when morning comes.
