This prayer is for the moments when you feel you have nothing left to give and need God’s grace and mercy to carry you through. Pray it when you are worn down by your own failures, when someone else’s hurt is weighing on you, or when you simply cannot find the words yourself. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words as they come.

Prayer for Grace and Mercy

Father, I come to You because I am tired, and I am honest that I cannot make it on my own strength. I have said things I regret, I have failed people I love, and some nights I lie awake replaying choices I cannot undo. Thank You that You do not wait for me to become worthy before You receive me. Give me grace to accept Your forgiveness without hiding from it, and mercy to forgive myself the way You have already forgiven me.

Lord, where I feel weak, meet me with Your strength. Where I feel judged, remind me that You see me fully and still call me Your own. Soften my heart toward the people who have hurt me, and give me the patience to keep showing up with kindness even when it costs me something. Let Your mercy be new to me this morning, as it is every morning.

Teach me to receive Your grace as freely as You give it, and to pass it on to the people around me. I trust that You are good, that You are near, and that Your love does not run out. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I need Your grace right now and I need Your mercy. I am not asking because I have earned it, but because You are kind and I am desperate for You. Forgive what I cannot fix, steady what is shaking in me, and help me take the next faithful step. Thank You that Your mercy is new today. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

Pray this when you wake up feeling that yesterday’s failures have followed you into today. Thank God that His mercies are renewed each morning, and ask Him to help you start the day receiving them.

Ephesians 2:4-5

4 But God, being rich in mercy, for his great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved)…

(WEB)

Use this passage when you feel far from God because of what you have done. Thank Him that His rich mercy and great love were directed toward you while you were still struggling, not after you had cleaned yourself up.

Psalm 103:8-12

8 The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness. 9 He will not always accuse; neither will he stay angry forever. 10 He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor repaid us for our iniquities. 11 For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is his loving kindness toward those who fear him. 12 As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

(WEB)

Read this slowly when guilt keeps returning. Praise God for His patience and compassion, and ask Him to help you believe that He is not keeping a record of your sins against you.

Hebrews 4:16

Let us therefore draw near with boldness to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy, and may find grace for help in time of need.

(WEB)

This verse invites you to approach God’s throne boldly. Pray it when you feel hesitant to come to Him, and ask for the courage to bring your needs directly to the One who offers grace.

2 Corinthians 12:9

He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me.

(WEB)

Pray this when your own weakness feels like a disqualification. Ask God to show you how His grace is sufficient in exactly the places where you feel least capable.

How to Pray This Prayer

Try praying this prayer in the early morning or late at night, when your mind is quiet and the day’s pressures have not yet crowded in. Sit somewhere you can be still, perhaps near a window or at your kitchen table with a cup of tea. If it helps, place one hand over your heart or open your palms as a physical sign that you are releasing what you are holding onto.

You might also pray this with someone else, such as a spouse, a close friend, or a small group. Let them pray the words over you, and then take turns asking God for grace and mercy for the people you love. Hearing grace spoken aloud by another believer can make it easier to believe it is real for you too.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord grant you grace for every hard day and mercy for every failure. May He steady your heart, quiet your fears, and remind you that you are held. May His kindness meet you today and follow you into tomorrow, and may you walk in His peace.
