This is a prayer for strength and healing, written for the times when your body, your heart, or your energy has run low and you need God’s help to keep going. You can pray it in the morning before the day begins, in the quiet of a hospital waiting room, or late at night when sleep will not come. Read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words to God in the spaces between its lines.

Prayer for Strength and Healing

Lord, you see me today. You know the exhaustion that sits heavy in my chest, the pain I try not to talk about, and the worry that keeps me awake when everyone else is asleep. I come to you because I do not have enough strength of my own to carry this. Give me the strength I need for the next hour, and then for the hour after that. Let me rest in you when I cannot do anything else.

Heal what is broken in my body and what is bruised in my spirit. Where there is sickness, bring restoration in your time and in your way. Where there is fear about the test results, the bills, or the future, speak peace into those places. Give the doctors wisdom, give my family patience, and give me the honesty to ask for help when I need it. Keep me from pretending that I am fine when I am not.

Thank you that I am not facing this alone. Renew my strength the way the morning renews the sky, quietly and without my having to earn it. Whatever healing you choose to give, let me trust that you are good and that you are near. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, I am tired and I am hurting. Give me strength for this moment and healing for what is wounded in me. Steady my breathing, calm my thoughts, and remind me that you are close. Help me take the next small step. I trust you with the rest. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Isaiah 40:29

He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might.

(WEB)

Pray this verse when you feel drained and have nothing left to give. Ask God to give power to your tired body and to add strength where your own reserves have run out.

Psalm 147:3

He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds.

(WEB)

Use this verse for the wounds you carry, both visible and hidden. Thank God that he is the one who binds up hurting hearts, and ask him to begin that work in you today.

Psalm 73:26

My flesh and my heart fails, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

(WEB)

When your body or heart is failing, pray this verse as a confession of trust. Ask God to be your strength in place of your own, and to remain your portion when everything else gives way.

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

(WEB)

Speak this verse slowly when fear is pressing in around your health or your future. Let God’s promise of his presence and his help become the ground you stand on while you wait for healing.

James 5:14-15

14 Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the assembly, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord, 15 and the prayer of faith will heal him who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. If he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.

(WEB)

Pray this passage for yourself or for someone you love who is ill. It reminds us that prayer is part of the healing life of the church, and it invites us to ask for help from others as well as from God.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a time when you can be still for a few minutes, such as first thing in the morning with a cup of tea, or in the evening before you turn off the lamp. Sit in a chair with your feet on the floor and your hands open in your lap or resting on your knees. Pray the full prayer once, then read the shorter version if your energy is low. Some people find it helpful to place a hand on the place where they feel the most pain as they pray.

Consider asking a trusted friend, a pastor, or a family member to pray this prayer with you, or to pray it over you in their own words. Write the verses on a card and keep it in your purse, on your phone, or on your bathroom mirror so that help is always close at hand. Return to the prayer on hard days, and let it shape the way you speak to God when the words will not come on their own.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord be your strength when your own strength is gone. May he hold you steady, bind up what is broken, and bring healing in his good time. May you know that you are seen, that you are loved, and that you are never walking this road alone.
