A prayer for the week ahead is a short, honest conversation with God before the days begin to fill up. Pray it on Sunday evening, first thing Monday morning, or whenever you feel the week pressing in on you. It can be read aloud exactly as written, or you can use it as a starting point and speak in your own words about what you are facing.

Prayer for the Week Ahead

Lord, I come to you before the week begins. You know the calendar I am looking at: the early meetings, the deadlines that have been sitting on my desk, the phone calls I keep putting off, the people who depend on me at home and at work. Some of it I am looking forward to, and some of it I am dreading. Please go ahead of me into each day and make the road plain enough to walk.

Give me clear thinking when I have to make decisions, and patience with the people who slow me down or frustrate me. Where I am tired, renew my strength. Where I am worried about money, health, or a family member I cannot fix, take those weights from my hands and keep them in yours. Help me to rest on the nights I need it, and to be present with the people in front of me instead of already somewhere else.

Above all, let me remember that you are not waiting for me to get everything right. You are already in this week, and you are faithful to the end of it. Hold me steady, and let my work and my words reflect your kindness. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, this week is longer than I can see from here. Walk with me through the meetings, the messages, and the hours when I feel stretched thin. Give me the next right step and the grace to take it. Help me love the people around me well, and when I fall short, let your mercy meet me there. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 46:10

“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth.”

(WEB)

Use this verse to slow your mind down before the week speeds up. Pray it when your schedule feels like it is shouting, asking God to quiet your heart enough to recognize who he is in the middle of the noise.

Isaiah 40:31

But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

(WEB)

Bring this verse to God when you feel depleted before the week has even started. Ask him to renew your strength for the tasks that are truly yours, and to help you release the ones that were never meant to be carried alone.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Pray this passage over the decisions you expect to make this week. Ask God to direct your steps where you cannot see the outcome, and to help you trust him more than your own certainty.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

When worry is crowding your planning, pray these words slowly. Name each concern to God in turn, and ask for the peace that guards your heart even when the week does not go the way you hoped.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

Pray this verse on the morning you feel least ready for what lies ahead. Thank God that his faithfulness does not run out at the weekend, and ask him to show you fresh mercy for each new day of the week.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a quiet moment before your first obligation, even if it is only five minutes with a cup of coffee before the house wakes up. Sit somewhere you can be still, and keep a pen nearby to jot down any specific worry that surfaces so you can return to it later in the week.

If you are praying with a spouse, a friend, or a small group, read the prayer aloud together and let each person add one concern from their own week. You might also write the Scripture verses on a card and keep it in your bag or on your dashboard, so that when a hard meeting or difficult call arrives, you have words ready before you have time to panic.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord go before you into every hour of this week, and may he be the steady ground beneath your feet. May he give you wisdom for what is in front of you, peace for what you cannot control, and the strength to rest when rest is what you need.
