If you are looking for prayers for your grandparents, this page gives you a written prayer you can read aloud as it stands, along with a shorter version for busy moments and a few Scriptures to pray alongside it. Use it when you visit them, when you hear news about their health, or on an ordinary morning when they simply come to mind.

Prayers for My Grandparents

Lord, I thank you for my grandparents. Thank you for the years they have given, for the hands that held me, the meals they cooked, and the patience they showed when I was small and foolish. Thank you that their lives have been woven into the story of my family, and that you have been faithful to them through every season, including the hard ones.

Father, I bring them to you now. Strengthen their bodies where they are weak, and give them rest where they are tired. Ease their fears about the future, the bills, the appointments and the empty chairs at the table. Where memory is fading or health is failing, hold them close, because you never forget the people you have made. Give their hearts peace that does not depend on how their days turn out.

Keep them safe in their homes, on the roads, and in the small routines that matter so much at their age. Surround them with people who love them well and who will sit with them when I cannot. Let them feel your nearness, and let them know how deeply they are valued, by you and by us. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, watch over my grandparents today. Give them strength for what is ahead and peace for what weighs on them. Keep them safe and comforted, and let them feel your presence in the ordinary hours. Thank you for their lives and their love. Be near to them, and be near to me as I think of them. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 71:9

Don’t reject me in my old age. Don’t forsake me when my strength fails.

(WEB)

Pray this verse for your grandparents when they feel forgotten or set aside. Ask God to remain close to them in every stage of aging, and to renew their sense of purpose and belonging.

Isaiah 46:4

Even to old age I am he, and even to gray hairs I will carry you. I have made, and I will bear. Yes, I will carry, and will deliver.

(WEB)

Pray this for the years when your grandparents carry more than they can manage alone. Thank God that his care for them does not diminish as their strength does, and ask him to carry them through every season.

Psalm 92:14

They will still produce fruit in old age. They will be full of sap and green…

(WEB)

Pray this for the fruitfulness of their later years. Ask God to keep their faith fresh, their hearts green, and their witness strong, even when their days are quieter than they once were.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

Pray this on the mornings when your grandparents wake up uncertain. Ask God to remind them that his mercies are new each day, and that his faithfulness does not run out.

Psalm 121:7-8

7 The LORD will keep you from all evil. He will keep your soul. 8 The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forever more.

(WEB)

Pray this when they go out or travel. Ask God to guard their going and coming, and to keep them under his watch in every place they go.

How to Pray This Prayer

Many people find the early morning or the quiet of the evening the best time to pray for their grandparents. Sit somewhere you can be still, and hold a photograph of them or a item they treasure in your hands while you read. Pausing with something tangible can help your attention stay with them rather than drifting to your own list.

You do not have to pray this alone. Invite a sibling, a parent, or a friend who knows your grandparents to pray with you, either in person or by phone. If they are able, consider praying with your grandparents directly, and let them hear you ask God for their good. Many grandparents are deeply moved to know they are being remembered in prayer.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless your grandparents and keep them. May he make his face shine upon them and be gracious to them, and may they rest in his peace all the days they have left, and into eternity.
