This page offers prayers for my home, written for the moments when you want to bring your house, the people in it, and the everyday concerns of domestic life before God. Pray it in the morning as you start the day, in the evening as the house settles, or whenever you walk through the rooms and feel the need for peace. You can read the prayer aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Prayers for My Home

Lord, you are the one who builds a house, and I ask you to build this one. Be the foundation under every room and the roof over every head. Guard the doors and windows, and let no harm come through them. Where there is tension between people who live here, bring softness and honest words. Where someone is worn out from work, school, or illness, give rest that goes deeper than sleep. Help us to be patient with one another when the dishes pile up, the bills arrive, and the day runs long.

Father, I also pray for the unseen things. Keep our home free from fear, from bitterness, and from the habits that quietly pull us apart. Let guests feel welcome here, and let our table be a place where people are fed in body and in spirit. When we come in tired, let us find a calm we did not manufacture ourselves. Make this place a shelter for everyone who lives in it, and a light to the neighbors who pass by. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, watch over this house and everyone who sleeps under its roof. Guard our going out and our coming in. Calm what is anxious, mend what is broken, and fill these rooms with your peace. Make us gentle with each other today. Thank you for the walls around us and for the people inside them. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 127:1

Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain who build it. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman guards it in vain.

(WEB)

Pray this verse by admitting that your efforts to keep the house running are not enough on their own. Ask the Lord to be the builder and watchman, and let his presence become the real foundation of your household.

Joshua 24:15

If it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose today whom you will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell; but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”

(WEB)

Pray this verse as a family decision. Ask God to help everyone in your home choose to serve him, and to make that choice visible in ordinary habits like meals, kindness, and how you speak to each other.

Psalm 121:7-8

7 The LORD will keep you from all evil. He will keep your soul. 8 The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forever more.

(WEB)

Pray this verse over the coming and going of each person. Ask the Lord to keep everyone safe on the road, at school, at work, and whenever they step out the front door.

Proverbs 14:1

Every wise woman builds her house, but the foolish one tears it down with her own hands.

(WEB)

Pray this verse for the women and men who keep the household running. Ask God to give wisdom in the daily work of building a home, so that the house is strengthened rather than torn down by careless words and choices.

Romans 12:18

If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men.

(WEB)

Pray this verse for peace within the walls and beyond them. Ask God to help you live at peace with those in your home and with neighbors, especially when tempers rise and old hurts come up again.

How to Pray This Prayer

Many people find it helpful to pray this prayer at a set time, such as while the coffee brews in the morning or after the last light is switched off at night. Walk slowly through the house as you pray, pausing at the kitchen table, the bedrooms, and the front door. Let each place remind you of someone you are lifting up. Touching a doorframe or a windowsill with your hand can help your attention stay on the prayer rather than on your to-do list.

You can also invite another person in the home to pray it with you, or take turns reading lines aloud. Children can add their own sentences about the rooms they love. If you live alone, pray it for the people who visit, for neighbors on your street, and for those who have no home at all. A prayer for a house becomes a prayer for everyone the house touches.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless this home and keep every person who lives in it. May his peace settle in each room and his kindness shape every conversation held at its table. May those who come and go be surrounded by his care, and may this house be a place where people find rest, welcome, and hope.
