This is a prayer for the days when you feel worn thin and want to keep going without giving up. You can pray it in the morning before the day’s demands arrive, during a hard stretch of work or caregiving, or late at night when you cannot sleep. Read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words where they fit your situation.

Christian Prayer for Staying Strong

Lord, I come to you because I am tired. Some mornings I wake up already behind, carrying worries about money, work, my health, or the people I love who are struggling. I try to hold everything together on my own, and by evening I am depleted and short with the people closest to me. Help me see that I was never meant to be my own source of strength. Teach me to rest in you the way a child rests against a parent who is steady and near.

Give me courage for the next hard conversation, the next appointment, the next task I have been dreading. When I feel like quitting, remind me of the faithfulness you have shown me before, even when I could not see how things would turn out. Guard my heart from bitterness and my mind from the constant replay of what could go wrong. Fill the empty places with your peace, and let me draw from that peace when my own supply runs out. Thank you that you do not grow weary, and that you give strength to those who feel faint. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I am running low right now. Steady me in this moment and give me enough strength for the next step, no more and no less. Help me trust that you are holding what I cannot carry. Calm my mind, straighten my shoulders, and let me feel your nearness even while my hands are full. I ask this in the quiet of this moment, believing you hear me. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Isaiah 40:29-31

29 He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might. 30 Even the youths faint and get weary, and the young men utterly fall; 31 But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

(WEB)

Pray this passage when your energy feels gone. Ask God to give power to your weakness, and thank him that renewed strength comes from waiting on him rather than from pushing harder on your own.

Psalm 46:1-2

1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. 2 Therefore we won’t be afraid, though the earth changes, though the mountains are shaken into the heart of the seas…

(WEB)

Use this psalm when the ground under you feels unsteady. Name the specific upheaval you are facing and affirm, in your own words, that God is your refuge and strength in it.

2 Corinthians 12:9

He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me.

(WEB)

Pray this when you feel ashamed of your limits. Thank God that his grace is enough for your weakness, and ask him to show you where his power is working through what you feel is lacking.

Joshua 1:9

Haven’t I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid. Don’t be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

(WEB)

Read this slowly as a prayer before a frightening task. Ask the Lord to be with you wherever you go, and to replace your dread with the courage that comes from knowing he goes ahead of you.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Pray this when anxiety is wearing you down. Bring each specific worry to God by name, thanking him for what he has already provided, and ask him to guard your heart and mind with his peace.

How to Pray This Prayer

Many people find it helps to pray this prayer first thing in the morning, while the house is quiet and before the phone fills with requests. Sit in a chair you find comfortable, keep a cup of something warm nearby, and read the prayer slowly, pausing after each sentence to let the words settle. If you are in a busy season, you might pray only the short version while driving, waiting in a line, or standing at the kitchen sink.

Consider writing down the specific concerns that come to mind as you pray, then bring that list back to God the next day. You might also invite a friend, spouse, or small group to pray the prayer over you, or to join you in praying it for someone else who is struggling. Strength often grows in company, and hearing another person ask God for your well-being can make you feel less alone.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who renews the weary fill you with strength for today and grace for tomorrow. May he steady your steps when the path feels long, and remind you that you are held. May his peace guard your heart and his faithfulness carry you through every hard hour ahead.
