When you need comfort, the right words can be hard to find, especially when grief, fear or exhaustion has left you too tired to think. This page offers a prayer you can read aloud just as it is written, or use as a starting point to shape your own words. Pray it whenever the weight of your day feels heavier than you can carry alone.
Prayers When You Need Comfort
Father, I come to you because I am worn down and I do not have the strength to pretend otherwise. My thoughts keep circling back to the things I cannot fix: the phone call I am dreading, the bills that do not add up, the empty chair at the table, the body that is tired in ways sleep does not seem to touch. Please meet me exactly where I am, without asking me to explain myself or to feel better first.
Be near to me in the quiet moments, like the drive home or the early hours when I cannot sleep. Steady my breathing and settle the fear that rises when I am alone with my worries. Remind me that you see every detail of what I am carrying, and that nothing in my life is too small or too heavy for your attention. Let your presence be real to me, even if I do not feel much of anything tonight.
Give me enough courage for the next hour, and then the hour after that. Teach me to take the help that people offer, and to be honest with the ones who love me about how much I am struggling. Hold me together when I feel like I am coming apart. I trust that you are faithful, and I lay my heart down in your hands. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, I am overwhelmed right now and I need you. Be close to me in this moment, calm the racing in my chest, and help me take the next breath. I do not have to solve everything today. Carry what I cannot carry, and give me what I need to get through this hour. Thank you that I am not alone. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Choose a quiet spot where you will not be interrupted for a few minutes, such as a chair by a window, your car before you go inside, or the edge of your bed before you get up. If your hands are restless, hold a warm cup of tea, rest a palm on your chest, or hold a small object that reminds you of someone you love. Read the prayer slowly, pausing after each paragraph to let the words sink in.
If you cannot manage the full prayer, read only the shorter version and return to the longer one later. You are also welcome to ask a trusted friend, a pastor or a family member to pray it with you or over you, especially on days when you feel unable to speak. Their voice can carry the prayer when your own words run out.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord who sees your tears be close to you today and in the days ahead. May he steady your heart, strengthen your hands, and give you rest that reaches deeper than your circumstances. May you know, even in the hardest moments, that you are held, loved and never forgotten.
