This lesson teaches children that God blesses people who love and obey Him and who share kindly with others. It works well for children ages 5 to 11 and takes about 20 to 30 minutes. Keep the pace lively, and let the children move, point, and answer questions.

Big Idea

God blesses people who trust Him, love His ways, and are generous and kind to others. When we trust God, we do not need to be afraid, because He takes care of us.

Memory Verse

Psalm 112:1

Praise Yah! Blessed is the man who fears the LORD, who delights greatly in his commandments.

(WEB)

Put your hands over your heart when you say “Blessed.” Then open your arms wide when you say “delights in God’s commands.” Do the motions together three times, then say the whole verse with the motions.

The Story: Psalm 112 for Kids

Long ago, a songwriter wrote a special song to praise God. He sang, “Praise the LORD!” and then he told everyone about a happy kind of person. This person loves God and enjoys doing what God asks. God makes that person’s life full of blessing.

The songwriter said that good things would happen to this person’s family too. Their children would grow strong, and their home would have what they needed. Their goodness would last a long time, and people would remember them with kindness.

Next, the songwriter talked about a time when things felt dark and scary. Even then, the good person was not left alone. Light shines for them, because God is gracious, merciful, and good. The person does not need to be afraid of bad news, because their heart stays calm and trusts in the LORD.

The person also shared what they had. They gave generously to people who were poor and helped others when they could. The songwriter said that this kind of giving brings honor. The person was not showing off. They were simply loving the people around them.

At the end of the song, the songwriter said that people who turn away from God will not be happy in the end. They will see that the good person is blessed, and they will feel sad. Their plans will fall apart. The song reminds us that God keeps His promises to those who love Him.

Read It Together

Psalm 112:5

It is well with the man who deals graciously and lends. He will maintain his cause in judgment.

(WEB)

Point out the word “graciously.” Ask the children what it means to treat someone kindly even when they do not deserve it. Give a simple example from your home, like sharing a snack or letting a sibling go first.

Psalm 112:7

He will not be afraid of evil news. His heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD.

(WEB)

Show how the verse talks about a heart that is steady and trusting. Ask the children what makes them feel scared, then remind them that God is with them in those moments. Let them name one worry they can give to God.

Psalm 112:9

He has dispersed, he has given to the poor. His righteousness endures forever. His horn will be exalted with honor.

(WEB)

Point out the words “given to the poor.” Explain that the Bible teaches us to share with people who have less than we do. Ask the children who they could help this week, and encourage them to think of a practical way.

Talk About It

  • What did the songwriter say makes a person happy and blessed?
  • How can we show that we love God’s words and ways at school or at home?
  • What is something you could share with someone who needs it?
  • Why do you think God wants us to be kind and generous?
  • What is one thing you can trust God with when you feel worried?

Activity Ideas

Light in the Dark Craft

You will need a sheet of black construction paper, a few small pieces of yellow or white tissue paper, glue, and a flashlight. Have each child glue tissue paper bits onto the black paper to make stars or a sunrise. Talk about how light shines in the darkness, just as the song says. Let the children take their pictures home.

Sharing Relay Game

Set up two bowls at opposite ends of the room, one full of dry beans and one empty. Divide the children into two teams. Each child carries a spoonful of beans from the full bowl to the empty bowl and back, passing them to the next teammate. Explain that the team that shares well finishes together.

Blessing Jar at Home

Give each child a small jar, some paper, and a pencil. Ask them to write one way they shared or showed kindness each day this week and fold it into the jar. At the end of the week, open the jar together and thank God for each blessing. This helps the lesson continue after class.

Teacher Notes

For adults, Psalm 112 describes a settled life rooted in reverent trust and generous living. The psalm presents righteousness as a pattern of character that shows up in everyday choices, not as a formula that guarantees wealth. It also points to the enduring faithfulness of God to those who honor Him.

Avoid promising children that following God will always bring material riches or freedom from hard times. The psalm speaks of blessing, steadiness, and a lasting good name, and children should hear that God cares for us through every season, including the difficult ones.

A Prayer to Close

Father, thank You for loving us and for blessing those who trust You. Help us to be kind, to share what we have, and to stay steady when we feel afraid. Teach us to love Your words and to follow You each day. Thank You that You are with us always. Amen.
