This lesson teaches children that Jesus is the faithful and true King who wins every battle and is worthy of praise. It works well for children ages 5 to 11 and takes about 20 to 30 minutes, including the story, a verse, and an activity.

Big Idea

Jesus is the King of kings, and He is always faithful and true. We can praise Him because He is good and He keeps His promises.

Memory Verse

Revelation 19:16

He has on his garment and on his thigh a name written, “KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”

(WEB)

Have the children stand tall and hold their arms up like a crown on their heads as they say the verse together. Then have them sweep one arm out wide, like a king pointing to his whole kingdom. Repeat the motions three times so the words stick.

The Story: Revelation 19 for Kids

John saw a great crowd in heaven, and they were singing. They sang “Hallelujah!” because God is good and His judgments are always right. The crowd praised God for salvation, power, and glory. It was a happy sound, like many waters and loud thunder all at once.

Then John saw the heavens open. A white horse came out, and the rider on it was called Faithful and True. His eyes were like fire, and he wore many crowns on his head. His robe was dipped in blood, and his name was The Word of God. The armies of heaven followed Him on white horses, dressed in clean, white linen.

The rider had a sharp sword coming out of His mouth, and on His robe was written, “King of Kings, and Lord of Lords.” A voice called out to the birds, “Come to the great supper of God!” The beast and the kings of the earth gathered to fight against the rider on the horse. But the beast and the false prophet were stopped, and they were thrown into the lake of fire.

The rest of the enemies were defeated by the sword from the rider’s mouth. Jesus won the battle. Everything happened just as God said it would, and the faithful King stood as the victor.

Read It Together

Revelation 19:1-2

1 After these things I heard something like a loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying, “Hallelujah! Salvation, power, and glory belong to our God: 2 for true and righteous are his judgments. For he has judged the great prostitute, who corrupted the earth with her sexual immorality, and he has avenged the blood of his servants at her hand.”

(WEB)

Point out that the crowd in heaven praised God because His judgments are true and right. Ask the children what it means that God is always fair and always keeps His word. Explain that we can trust Him when we feel scared or confused.

Revelation 19:11

I saw the heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and he who sat on it is called Faithful and True. In righteousness he judges and makes war.

(WEB)

Show the children that the rider on the white horse is called Faithful and True. Explain that Jesus always does what He says He will do. Remind them that when life feels uncertain, Jesus never changes.

Revelation 19:7

Let us rejoice and be exceedingly glad, and let us give the glory to him. For the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his wife has made herself ready.”

(WEB)

Point out that the verse talks about rejoicing and gladness because a wonderful day is coming. Explain that God’s people will one day celebrate with Jesus forever. Let the children share something that makes them glad.

Talk About It

  • What did the great crowd in heaven sing about, and why did they sing it?
  • What names did John see written on the rider’s robe, and what do they tell us about Jesus?
  • How can we show Jesus that we think He is faithful and true?
  • Why do you think the armies of heaven followed Jesus on white horses?
  • What is one thing you can praise God for this week?

Activity Ideas

Paper Crown Craft

You will need strips of construction paper, tape or a stapler, crayons or markers, and gold stickers if you have them. Have each child write “King of Kings” on their strip and decorate it. Then fit the strip around their head and tape it closed. Let them wear their crowns while they say the memory verse together.

Faithful and True Freeze Game

Choose one child to be the King, and the others are the armies. The armies march around the room while the King calls out “Faithful and True!” When the King shouts “Stop!” everyone freezes like statues. The last child to freeze becomes the next King. Play several rounds and talk about how Jesus always keeps His word.

Take-Home Praise Jar

You will need a clean jar or cup, small paper slips, and a pen. Give each child a few slips and ask them to write or draw something they are thankful to God for. They can place the slips in the jar at home. Encourage the family to read the notes together at dinner each week.

Teacher Notes

For adults, Revelation 19 is a picture of God’s final victory over evil and the joy of His people who belong to Him. Jesus appears as the King who judges with righteousness and who is worthy of all praise. The chapter closes with a celebration that points to the marriage supper of the Lamb, a picture of God’s people being united with Him forever.

Avoid describing the battle scenes in graphic detail with young children, and do not try to explain every symbol in the chapter. Focus instead on the simple truths that Jesus is King, that He is faithful, and that we can trust and praise Him.

A Prayer to Close

Dear Jesus, we praise You because You are the King of kings and Lord of lords. Thank You that You are faithful and true, and that You always keep Your promises. Help us trust You every day and give You all our praise. Amen.
