This lesson teaches children that Jesus, the Lamb who was slain, is worthy of all praise because he saved people from every nation. It is designed for children ages 5 to 11 and takes about 20 to 30 minutes to teach, including the story, Bible reading, and activity.
Big Idea
Jesus is worthy of all our praise because he died for us and rescued people from every family and country. Heaven is full of people singing to him.
Memory Verse
Revelation 5:12
Saying with a loud voice, “Worthy is the Lamb who has been killed to receive the power, wealth, wisdom, strength, honor, glory, and blessing!”
(WEB)
Teach the children to hold both hands up high like a crown, then slowly bring them down to their hearts as they say “Worthy is the Lamb.” Repeat it three times, getting a little louder each time, so the words feel like a song.
The Story: Revelation 5 for Kids
John was an old follower of Jesus who was far away on an island called Patmos. One day he had a special vision of heaven. In his hand was a big scroll, sealed shut with seven seals, and it held God’s plans for the world. A strong angel called out in a loud voice, asking, “Who is worthy to open this scroll?”
John looked everywhere, but no one could open it. Not in heaven, not on earth, not under the earth. John felt so sad that he cried and cried. He had wanted to know what God was going to do, and now it seemed no one could show him.
Then one of the elders in heaven came to John and said, “Don’t cry. Look! The Lion from the tribe of Judah has won the victory, and he is able to open the scroll.” John looked again, expecting to see a powerful lion. But instead, he saw a Lamb standing in the middle of the throne, a Lamb who looked as if it had been killed.
The Lamb walked up to God, who was sitting on the throne, and took the scroll. Right away, everyone in heaven fell down before the Lamb. The creatures and the elders held harps and bowls of sweet smelling prayers, and they began to sing a brand new song. They sang, “You are worthy, because you were killed, and you bought people for God with your blood from every nation.”
Then the singing grew bigger and bigger. Thousands and thousands of angels joined in, and then every created thing in heaven and on earth sang out too. They all said that the Lamb deserves blessing, honor, and glory forever. Then the four living creatures said, “Amen!” and everyone bowed down to worship.
Read It Together
Revelation 5:5-6
5 One of the elders said to me, “Don’t weep. Behold, the Lion who is of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has overcome; he who opens the book and its seven seals.” 6 I saw in the middle of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the middle of the elders, a Lamb standing, as though it had been slain, having seven horns, and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God, sent out into all the earth.

Point out that John looked for a lion but found a Lamb. Ask the children why God might choose a Lamb to show his power, and remind them that this Lamb was willing to give up his life for us.
Revelation 5:9
They sang a new song, saying, “You are worthy to take the book, and to open its seals: for you were killed, and bought us for God with your blood, out of every tribe, language, people, and nation…
(WEB)
Show the children that the song says Jesus bought people “out of every tribe, language, people, and nation.” Explain that this means God loves and saves people from everywhere, including children who speak different languages or look different from them.
Revelation 5:13
I heard every created thing which is in heaven, on the earth, under the earth, on the sea, and everything in them, saying, “To him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb be the blessing, the honor, the glory, and the dominion, forever and ever! Amen!”
(WEB)
Point out that the whole creation joins in the praise, not just the angels. Encourage the children to think about the sky, the sea, and the trees as part of the worship, and ask how they might praise God too.
Talk About It
- What did John feel when no one could open the scroll, and why do you think he felt that way?
- Why do you think the Lamb was the one who was worthy to open the scroll?
- What is one thing Jesus did for you that makes you want to praise him?
- Who are some people in our world who speak different languages or come from different places, and how does Jesus love them too?
- What would you like to sing to Jesus when you think about how worthy he is?
Activity Ideas
Paper Crown Drawing
You will need paper, crayons or markers, and scissors. Have each child draw a large crown and then write or draw one reason they think Jesus is worthy. Let them cut out the crown and wear it during the closing prayer as a reminder of Jesus as King.
Worthy Lamb Movement Game
Ask the children to stand in a circle and listen for the word “Lamb.” When you say it, they gently sink down to the floor, and when you say “Worthy,” they jump up and raise their arms high. Play for a few minutes, then talk about how Jesus humbled himself and was then lifted up in glory.
Family Praise Jar
You will need a clean jar, slips of paper, and a pen. Each day this week, family members write one thing they are thankful for about Jesus on a slip and put it in the jar. At the end of the week, read the notes aloud together as a way of singing praise to the Lamb.
Teacher Notes
For adults, Revelation 5 shows that Jesus holds authority over history because of his sacrifice, not because of raw power. The Lamb who was slain is the one who opens God’s plans, and his worth comes from his self-giving love that redeems people from every nation. This is a picture of the victory of Christ that we can trust in the midst of uncertainty.
Avoid overstating to children the exact meaning of the seven seals, the four living creatures, or the timing of future events. Keep the focus on the simple truths of Jesus’ worth, his sacrifice, and the worship he receives, so that the lesson stays clear and age appropriate.
A Prayer to Close
Dear Jesus, we thank you that you are worthy of all our praise. Thank you for dying for us and for bringing people from every nation to God. Help us to sing to you with joy and to love others the way you love us. Amen.
