This page gives you short Bible verses about overcoming worry, each one brief enough to memorize, write on a card, or repeat while you wait in line or lie awake at night. It is for anyone whose mind keeps circling back to what might go wrong. What these verses share is a simple movement: they name the anxiety honestly, then point you toward God’s steadiness, his nearness, and his care for what you cannot control.

Verses for Quiet Moments of Stillness

Some worry is loud, but much of it hums underneath the day without any clear cause. These verses are good for the moments when you need to slow down long enough to notice that you are not in charge of everything, and that God is.

Psalm 46:10

“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth.”

(WEB)

When your thoughts are racing, this verse asks you to stop trying to solve everything at once. Try reading it slowly, then pause for three breaths before you pick up the next task. Let the stillness be a practice, not a performance.

Psalm 56:3

When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you.

(WEB)

David wrote this in a time of real danger, and he chose trust as his response to fear. Name one specific fear you are carrying today, then say the first half of this verse aloud beside it. Notice how the fear and the trust can be held in the same moment.

Psalm 94:19

In the multitude of my thoughts within me, your comforts delight my soul.

(WEB)

This verse admits that the anxieties within a person can be many and heavy. It also says God’s comfort delights the soul. Keep it on a note in your pocket and read it when your chest feels tight in the middle of an ordinary afternoon.

Isaiah 26:3

You will keep whoever’s mind is steadfast in perfect peace, because he trusts in you.

(WEB)

Peace in this verse comes from keeping the mind fixed on God, not from having every answer. When your attention drifts to worst-case scenarios, gently return it to one thing you know about God’s character. Repeat that thing until your breathing slows.

Verses for the Morning Before a Hard Day

Worry often arrives early, before the day has even started. These verses are suited to the first minutes after you wake, when the list of things to dread is already forming and you need a steadier starting point.

Psalm 55:22

Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved.

(WEB)

This verse invites you to hand the weight over rather than carry it alone all day. Before you check your phone, name the burden you expect to face and set it down in prayer. Then go into the day with what you can actually handle.

Lamentations 3:23

They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

Lamentations was written by someone surrounded by ruin, yet this line holds a fresh mercy every morning. When you wake dreading the day, let the morning itself be your reminder that God’s faithfulness has already met you once. Make your coffee and receive it as a small sign of that.

Psalm 118:6

The LORD is on my side. I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?

(WEB)

This verse shifts the question from “what if people turn against me?” to “who is with me?” Before a difficult conversation or meeting, speak this line over yourself. Let it shape how you walk into the room, not just how you feel about it.

Matthew 6:34

Therefore don’t be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Each day’s own evil is sufficient.

(WEB)

Jesus speaks plainly here: each day has enough trouble of its own. Write this on the inside of your planner and look at it when tomorrow’s concerns start pulling at today. Choose only the next task in front of you and leave the rest for later.

Verses for Nights When Sleep Will Not Come

Worry is often loudest in the dark, when there is nothing to distract you. These verses are gentle companions for the hours between bedtime and morning, when you need reassurance more than explanation.

Psalm 4:8

In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, the LORD alone, make me live in safety.

(WEB)

David describes lying down and sleeping in peace because the Lord alone makes him dwell in safety. As you settle in tonight, let this verse be the last thing you say to God. Release the day’s unfinished business into his keeping.

Psalm 127:2

It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, eating the bread of toil; for he gives sleep to his loved ones.

(WEB)

This verse observes that God gives sleep to those he loves, which means rest is a gift rather than a reward for finishing everything. If you lie awake running through your to-do list, remind yourself that the list will still be there in the morning. Turn off the light and let your body take the rest it needs.

1 Peter 5:7

Casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you.

(WEB)

Peter’s instruction is direct: cast your anxiety on God because he cares for you. In the dark, picture each worry as something you lift and hand over, one at a time. Repeat the act until you reach the last one and can let go.

Psalm 3:5

I laid myself down and slept. I awakened; for the LORD sustains me.

(WEB)

David wrote this while fleeing from enemies, yet he testifies to lying down and sleeping because the Lord sustains him. When your mind is on high alert, say this verse slowly and let the words slow your heartbeat with them. Trust that the night belongs to God too.

Verses for Remembering God’s Nearness

Sometimes worry grows because you feel alone with a problem. These verses remind you that God is near in the middle of uncertainty, and that his presence is more solid than your fears.

Psalm 23:4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

(WEB)

The psalmist walks through the darkest valley and still speaks of God’s presence with him. This verse is especially helpful when your worry is about a long season rather than a single event. Let it remind you that you are not walking that road without company.

Deuteronomy 31:6

Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid or scared of them; for the LORD your God himself is who goes with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you.”

(WEB)

Moses encouraged the people before they faced a frightening future, and this verse holds the core of his message. When you feel afraid of what lies ahead, write the verse on paper and place it where you will see it during the day. Let it steady your next step.

Romans 8:31

What then shall we say about these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

(WEB)

Paul asks a question that puts fear in perspective: if God is for us, who can be against us? Use this verse when you feel outnumbered by problems. Ask yourself what changes when you remember whose side God is on.

How to Use These Verses

Choose one or two verses that speak to your current worry rather than trying to memorize all twenty at once. Write them on index cards, store them as a phone wallpaper, or tape one to your bathroom mirror where you will read it each morning. Repetition is what makes these words available when anxiety strikes, so give yourself a few weeks with the same verse before you switch.

When worry rises, pray the verse back to God in your own words rather than just reading it silently. Something like “Lord, you say you are near, so I am asking you to be near to me right now” turns the Scripture into conversation. Over time, you may find that the verses begin to come to mind on their own, sometimes at exactly the moment you need them most.

A Short Prayer for Overcoming Worry

Lord, you know how my mind runs ahead of me and fills the space with fear. I bring you what I cannot control today, and I ask you to take it from my hands. Help me rest in your nearness and remember that your care for me is steady, even when my feelings are not. Quiet my thoughts when they race, and remind me of the verses I have hidden in my heart. Teach me to trust you one step at a time. Amen.
