This short morning prayer asks God to keep you safe on the road, at work, and in every place you go, and to bring you home again at the end of the day. Pray it as you wake, before you leave the house, or while your coffee is still too hot to drink. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and put your own names and worries into the spaces.

Short Morning Prayer for a Safe Return Home

Father, I start this day by giving it to You. Before I reach for my phone or think about the list in my head, I want to say that I belong to You, and so do the hours ahead. Be with me when I pull out of the driveway, when I merge into traffic, and when I park somewhere unfamiliar. Keep my eyes sharp and my mind clear. Guard the people in my car and the people on the road with me, and let every trip I take today end the way You intend.

Lord, I also bring You the people I will see and the work I will do. Go before me into the meeting, the errand, the hard conversation, and the ordinary tasks that fill most of a day. Where I am anxious about what might go wrong, replace that fear with trust in You. Where I am tempted to hurry or take a risk I should not take, slow me down and give me wisdom. Let me leave this morning with my hands open and my heart at rest.

And when evening comes, bring me home. Let my door open onto a house that is warm and safe, with the people I love close by. Thank You for every mile that goes well and every danger that never arrives. Whatever happens between now and then, I trust You to hold me and to lead me back. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I am heading out, and I ask You to go with me. Watch over me on the road and keep every person I pass safe. Steady my hands and calm my thoughts. Bring me home tonight, and let me see where You have been working along the way. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 121:7-8

7 The LORD will keep you from all evil. He will keep your soul. 8 The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forever more.

(WEB)

Pray these words as you step out the door, asking the Lord to guard your going out and your coming in. The verse covers the whole day, from the first errand to the last drive home, and it reminds you that He keeps watch when you cannot.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Use this verse to bring your plans for the day to God. Ask Him to make the path straight where you are unsure of the way, and to show you the next right step when the day gets complicated or the roads are crowded.

Psalm 91:11-12

11 For he will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways. 12 They will bear you up in their hands, so that you won’t dash your foot against a stone.

(WEB)

Read this passage slowly and pray it over the people who will be traveling with you or waiting for you. It speaks of angels given charge over God’s people, and you can ask that this protection cover your family, your coworkers, and strangers on the road.

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

(WEB)

When fear rises about what the day might bring, pray this promise back to God. Ask Him to strengthen you, help you, and hold you steady, and let the words quiet the worry before it grows into something larger.

Psalm 139:7-10

7 Where could I go from your Spirit? Or where could I flee from your presence? 8 If I ascend up into heaven, you are there. If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, you are there! 9 If I take the wings of the dawn, and settle in the uttermost parts of the sea; 10 Even there your hand will lead me, and your right hand will hold me.

(WEB)

Pray this passage as a reminder that there is no place you can go where God is absent. Thank Him for being present in the car, on the highway, at the office, and in every unfamiliar place you reach today.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a fixed moment for this prayer, such as right after you wake up, while you make your bed, or as you buckle your seatbelt before you turn the key. Doing it at the same point each morning helps it become a habit rather than a rushed afterthought. If you are driving, pray the shorter version silently at red lights and keep your eyes on the road.

You can also pray this with someone else. A spouse, a child, or a friend who lives nearby can say it with you over the kitchen table or send it by text before a long commute. Hold something in your hands while you pray, such as your car keys, a bag, or a cup of tea, so that the words are tied to something real you are about to do.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord keep you on every road you travel today and guard the people you love while you are apart. May He go before you into each meeting and each task, and may you return home at evening with a grateful heart. The Lord bless you and keep you, and bring you safely back to the ones waiting for you.
