This short morning prayer is for anyone who wants to bring their home, and everyone living in it, before God at the start of the day. Pray it as you wake, over a cup of coffee, or as the first thing you do before the house fills with noise. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words into the same concerns.

Short Morning Prayer for My Home

Lord, thank You for this new morning and for the roof over our heads. Before the alarms go off and the kitchen fills with footsteps, I ask You to be the first presence in this house today. Go before each person who sleeps under this roof. Give rest to those who woke tired, and courage to those who are facing something hard. Keep our hearts soft toward one another, even when we are rushed and short-tempered.

Bless the small things we will do together: the breakfast on the table, the lunches packed, the shoes that cannot be found, the phone calls and texts that will come in. Guard our words when we disagree, and help us to listen before we speak. Where there is tension between any of us, make a way for honesty and repair. Let this home be a place where people feel safe to be themselves.

Watch over our going out and our coming back. Protect us on the roads, at work, at school, and in every place we will be today. Make this house a refuge for everyone who enters it, and a place where You are welcome. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, bless this home this morning. Be with everyone who lives here, and give us patience and gentleness with one another. Watch over our comings and goings, and make this house a place of peace where You are honored. Guard us from harm, and help us to love well today. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 127:1

Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain who build it. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman guards it in vain.

(WEB)

Pray this verse by naming the walls and rooms of your home and asking the Lord to build and guard them. It reminds you that the household’s strength does not rest on your effort alone, but on God’s presence within it.

Joshua 24:15

If it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose today whom you will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell; but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”

(WEB)

Read this as a morning declaration for your household. Name who lives under your roof and dedicate the day to serving God together, as Joshua did for his own family.

Psalm 121:8

The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forever more.

(WEB)

Use this verse to pray over everyone leaving the house today. Ask God to watch over their going out and their coming in, from the drive to work to the walk home from school.

Ephesians 4:32

And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you.

(WEB)

Pray this for the moments of friction you expect today. Ask God to make your household kind and forgiving toward one another, especially where patience is thin.

Psalm 90:17

Let the favor of the Lord our God be on us; establish the work of our hands for us; yes, establish the work of our hands.

(WEB)

Ask God to establish the work of your hands today, whether that is cooking, cleaning, paying bills, or caring for children. Pray that what you do at home would be blessed and fruitful.

How to Pray This Prayer

Pray it while your hands are busy, such as while the coffee brews, the kettle heats, or you fold the first load of laundry. Keeping your body occupied helps your mind settle, and each task can become a small reminder to lift the day to God. If you share the house with others, you might pray it aloud together at the breakfast table, or let one person read the prayer while the others listen with their eyes closed.

If you live alone, pray it by the door as you leave, speaking the names of the people you will see and the place you are returning to. If someone in your home is struggling, pray the prayer again with their name inserted in the places where it says “everyone who lives here.” Praying for your home regularly can make it a steady habit that carries you through the ordinary days.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord keep this home and every person in it today. May He go before them, walk beside them, and bring them safely back again. May His peace settle over the rooms, the conversations, and the quiet moments, and may the household know that they are loved.
