This short morning prayer is for the moment you wake up feeling depleted, when the day ahead already seems heavier than your body and spirit can carry. Pray it first thing, before you check your phone or reach for coffee, or whenever the morning arrives with more weight than you expected. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words in the same spirit.

Short Morning Prayer for Renewed Strength

Lord, I am waking up tired, and I do not pretend otherwise. My body feels slow, my mind is already running through the list of things I have to do today, and some of those things worry me. There is the conversation with my boss that I have been dreading, the errands that will not wait, the people in my home who will need patience from me before I have much to give. I bring each of these to you, one at a time, and I ask you to meet me in them.

Renew my strength for this day. Not only the strength to get through it, but the kind that comes from you, steady and quiet, the kind that does not run out by lunchtime. Give me clear thoughts when I am tempted to panic, gentleness when I am short with the people I love, and the willingness to stop and rest when I need to. Help me to remember that I do not have to carry tomorrow today.

Go before me into every meeting, every chore, every hard moment, and stay with me when the day is over and I am still tired. I trust you with the parts I cannot control. Fill the empty places in me with your presence, and let me walk into this morning knowing I am not walking alone. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, I am running low already. Give me your strength for the next hour, and then for the hour after that. Steady my heart when I feel rushed, and let me see the people in front of me with patience. Help me take one step at a time. I receive what you give this morning, and I trust you with the rest. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Isaiah 40:31

But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

(WEB)

Read this slowly when your energy feels spent. Pray that the Lord would renew your strength in the specific tasks waiting for you today, and ask him to help you wait on him before you rush into the day’s demands.

Psalm 46:1

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

(WEB)

Let this verse steady you before the first call or the first decision. Name the situation that feels most overwhelming and ask God to be your refuge in that exact place, not someday but this morning.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

When you feel used up, remember that God’s compassions are renewed each morning. Thank him for the mercy already waiting for you today and ask him to help you receive it instead of measuring yourself against yesterday.

Psalm 73:26

My flesh and my heart fails, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

(WEB)

Pray this when your body or heart feels like it is failing. Ask God to be the strength of your heart in the hardest part of your day, whether that is a medical appointment, a difficult conversation, or a long shift.

Philippians 4:13

I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.

(WEB)

This verse is easily misused as a slogan, so pray it honestly. Ask Christ to give you what you need for the specific demands ahead, not to make you superhuman, and thank him that his strength is enough for whatever the day actually holds.

How to Pray This Prayer

Pray this prayer while you are still in bed or sitting on the edge of it, before the day’s noise begins. If you can, keep a glass of water or a cup of tea in your hands as you speak, so that your body settles while your heart turns toward God. Some people find it helpful to write the names of the people and tasks they will meet that day on a card, then place the card where they will see it later and pray over it again.

If you share a home with someone, you might pray this prayer together, or ask a friend or spouse to pray it for you over the phone when you feel too drained to start the day alone. You can also pray the shorter version at a red light, in a hallway, or while waiting for the kettle to boil. Strength from God is not only for the first hour of the day, so return to these words whenever your energy begins to fade.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord renew the strength of this one who rises today. May he steady their steps, quiet their worries, and give them enough grace for every task and every person they will meet. May they know, in the middle of a tired morning, that they are deeply loved and fully held.
