This short prayer for loved ones is written for the moments when you want to bring the people you care about before God but are not sure where to begin. It can be prayed in the morning, before a hard conversation, at a hospital bedside, or during a quiet drive home. Read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak the names and worries that are on your heart.

Short Prayer for Loved Ones

Lord, you know the people I love better than I do. You know their names, their fears, the things they carry that they have not told anyone, and the hopes they have not yet dared to speak. I bring them to you now. Be near to the ones who are struggling with their health, their work, or their finances. Give rest to those who are worn out from caring for others, and give courage to those who are facing a decision they do not want to make.

Protect the children and young people I love from harm, both the visible kind and the kind that works quietly in the mind and heart. Guide the friends who feel lonely or far from you, and help the members of my family to forgive one another where there is hurt. Where relationships are strained, soften hearts on all sides. Let my own words and actions be a help to them and not a burden. Keep them in your care tonight and every night, and let them feel your presence even when they cannot see it. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, I lift up the people I love. Hold them close, guard their going out and their coming in, and meet the need that only you can see. Give them peace in the place where they are anxious, strength where they are weary, and the sense that they are not alone. Let your goodness find them today. Amen.

Paul prays here that believers would be strengthened in their inner being and rooted in love. Use his words for a friend or family member who feels weak, unseen, or unsure of how much God loves them.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a regular moment that already exists in your day, such as the minute after you pour your morning coffee or the pause before you turn off the light at night. Keep a short list of names on a card or in your phone so you can pray for one or two people each day rather than trying to cover everyone at once. If you find your mind wandering, slow down and pray one name at a time, aloud if you can.

Something to do with your hands can help you stay present. Hold a photograph, rest a hand on the shoulder of the person beside you, or write the names on a piece of paper and place it somewhere you will see it. Invite a spouse, a friend, or a small group to pray the same words with you, so that the people you love are carried by more than one voice.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless the people you love and keep them under his care. May he make his face shine upon them and be gracious to them. May they know, in the quiet places of their days, that they are seen, known, and held by a God who does not let go.
