This short prayer for my brother is for times when you want to lift him up to God but do not know where to begin, whether he is facing a hard season, making a big decision, or simply needs to feel held. It can be read aloud exactly as written, or you can use it as a starting point and speak in your own words. Keep it near your phone or Bible so you can pray it at any moment.

Short Prayer for My Brother

Father, I lift my brother to You this morning. You know every thought he carries, the worries he does not always say out loud, and the weight he has been bearing on his own. Be near him in the quiet places, in the car ride home, in the late-night hours when sleep will not come. Steady his heart and give him rest that does not depend on his circumstances.

Guard his health, his work, and his relationships. Where he feels stretched thin, give him wisdom to choose what matters most and the courage to let go of what does not. Where there is tension between him and someone he loves, soften hard words and open the door to honest conversation. Remind him that he is not forgotten by You.

Above all, draw him closer to You. Let him sense Your love in ways that are personal and real, and let your peace settle over him like a blanket on a cold night. Keep him safe, guide his steps, and let him see You at work in his life. Thank You for the gift of him. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, my brother needs You right now. Calm his fears, strengthen what is weak in him, and show him the next faithful step. Surround him with people who love him well and remind him of Your nearness. Hold him close today and every day. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Philippians 4:6-7

Romans 8:38-39

38 For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from God’s love, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

(WEB)

When your brother feels distant from God or from those who love him, pray this passage over him. Ask that he would be persuaded, in his own heart, that nothing can separate him from the love of God in Christ.

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

Ephesians 3:16-17

16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, that you may be strengthened with power through his Spirit in the inward man; 17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; to the end that you, being rooted and grounded in love…

Pray this for your brother’s inner life, that God would strengthen him through His Spirit and that Christ would dwell in his heart by faith. Ask that he would grow rooted and grounded in love.

How to Pray This Prayer

Many people find it helpful to pray for a brother in the early morning, before the day’s demands begin, or in the evening as a way to release what he carried through the day. Choose a quiet spot where you will not be interrupted, and let your hands rest open on your lap or hold a cup of something warm. Speaking his name slowly, before you begin, can make the prayer feel more personal.

You do not have to pray this alone. Invite a spouse, a close friend, or a small group to pray the same words for him, or ask your brother whether he would like you to pray for something specific. Let him know you are praying, and check in afterward. Being prayed for by someone who loves him can mean more to him than you may realize.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless your brother and keep him. May the Lord make His face shine upon him and be gracious to him. May he walk through this season knowing he is seen, loved, and held by the God who never lets go.
