This short prayer for strength and healing is written for the days when your body, your heart or your energy has run low, and you need to bring that weakness honestly before God. It works well first thing in the morning, before a hard appointment or late at night when sleep will not come. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words in the spaces it leaves open.

Short Prayer for Strength and Healing

Lord, you see me today, tired in ways that are hard to explain to anyone else. My body aches, my mind feels foggy, and some days I do not know where the next bit of strength will come from. I bring you the pain I carry and the worry that sits underneath it. I ask you to touch my body where it is hurting and to restore what has been worn down. Heal what needs healing, and give me the patience to rest well while I wait.

Father, I also ask for strength that goes deeper than my muscles or my energy. Give me courage for the next conversation, the next treatment, the next hour I am not sure I can get through. When I feel weak, remind me that you are not weak, and that your power is at its clearest when mine runs out. Carry the fear I cannot hold and steady my breathing when my heart races. Help me trust that you are working even when I cannot see the progress.

Thank you for staying close when everything feels uncertain. I place my health, my family and my future in your hands, knowing you love me more than I can understand. Renew my strength day by day, and let me rest in your care tonight. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I am tired and I am hurting. Touch my body and give me strength for this moment. Steady my mind and calm my fear. Help me take the next breath and the next step, trusting that you are with me in this. Restore what is broken and hold me close while I wait for healing. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Isaiah 40:29

He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might.

(WEB)

Read this slowly when your own reserves feel empty. Ask God to give you the strength you lack, and notice that the verse describes him as the one who gives power to the weary.

Psalm 147:3

He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds.

(WEB)

Pray this over the places in your body or heart that are wounded. Name each one to God, asking him to bind up what hurts and to tend it with his own care.

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

(WEB)

Use this verse when fear is louder than your strength. Repeat the promise of God’s presence and ask him to help you believe that he is holding you steady.

2 Corinthians 12:9

He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me.

(WEB)

Bring this verse to God when you feel ashamed of your weakness. Ask him to show you how his grace is enough for today, even if your strength is not.

Psalm 73:26

My flesh and my heart fails, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

(WEB)

Pray this when your body or spirit is failing. Thank God that he remains your strength and your portion, even when everything else seems to be giving way.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a quiet time, such as early morning with a cup of tea or the few minutes before you lie down at night. Sit or kneel somewhere comfortable, and if your hands need something to do, hold a cup, a rosary, a small stone or the edge of a blanket. Read the prayer slowly, pausing after each sentence so the words can settle before you move on.

You might also ask a friend, a spouse or a member of your church to pray this with you, or to pray it for you on the days you cannot find the words. Shared prayer can lighten the load and remind you that you are not carrying this alone. Return to the same prayer often, and let it grow with you as your needs change.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord strengthen the weary heart and bring healing to every aching place. May he give rest to the body, peace to the mind and courage for the road ahead. May he hold you close, day after day, and remind you that you are never without his care.
