This page offers short prayers for employees who want to bring their work, their coworkers and their pressures before God. You can pray the main prayer slowly at the start of a shift, in a parked car before you walk in, or during a break. Read it as written, or use it as a starting point and put your own words where yours belong.

Short Prayers for Employees

Lord, I come to you before I start my day at work. You know the tasks waiting on my desk, the emails I have not yet opened, and the meeting that has been on my mind since last night. Help me to do my job with honesty and care, not cutting corners when no one is watching and not chasing approval when someone is. Give me clear thinking when I have to make a decision and patience when a problem takes longer to solve than I hoped.

Father, I also ask you to watch over the people I work with. Some of them are carrying burdens I cannot see, whether at home, with their health, or with money. Soften my tongue when I feel irritated, and show me when a word of encouragement would matter more than being right. If I am tempted to envy a colleague’s promotion or to resent a manager’s correction, turn my heart toward gratitude and humility. Let me be someone others can trust.

When the day feels heavier than I can carry, remind me that my worth does not rise and fall with my performance review. Keep me steady when I fail, and grateful when things go well. Thank you for the work you have given me and the paycheck that helps care for the people I love. Help me to honor you in every task, however small. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I am stepping into a hard meeting and my stomach is tight. Calm my mind and steady my hands. Help me to speak truthfully and listen carefully, and to treat the people in this room with respect. Let me do my work well today, not for my own reputation but for you. Thank you that I am never alone in what I face at work. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer

Many people find it helpful to pray the main prayer in the first ten minutes of the workday, while still in the car or at the desk before the phone starts ringing. Keep a printed copy in your bag or a note saved on your phone so you can find it quickly. Holding a cup of coffee or a pen while you pray can give your hands something to do and help you stay focused.

You might also share this prayer with a friend, a spouse or a small group from church who work in similar jobs. Praying for one another’s workplaces builds a habit of support, and it reminds everyone that faithfulness at work is part of their life with God. If you are a manager or team leader, you could pray a shortened version for your team before a difficult project begins.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who sees every hidden effort give you wisdom for each decision and grace for each difficult conversation. May he make your work honest, your words kind and your rest real. Go into your day knowing that you are known, guided and loved by the God who made you.
