A simple prayer for my journey is a short, honest prayer you can offer before a trip, a long drive, a move to a new city, or any season that feels like a road you have not walked before. Pray it at the start of the day, in the car before you turn the key, or on the night before you leave. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words where your heart needs to say more.

Simple Prayer for My Journey

Lord, you know the road ahead of me better than I do. Some of it I can see, and some of it is hidden behind the next bend. I ask you to go before me and clear the way where I cannot. Keep me safe in my body and steady in my mind. Where I am tired, give me rest, and where I am afraid, give me courage that does not depend on how I feel.

Be with the people I am leaving behind and the people I am going to meet. Give me patience with the delays and wisdom in the decisions I must make along the way. When I lose my direction or my nerve, remind me that I am not alone and that you have not stopped walking with me. Teach me to notice your kindness in small things: a stranger’s help, a quiet mile, a good conversation.

Thank you that you are faithful to every step, including the ones I dread. I trust you with the parts of this journey I cannot control. Lead me home or lead me forward, and let me arrive as someone you have shaped along the way. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, I am on the road and my heart feels unsettled. Go before me, stay beside me, and keep me safe. Calm my fears, steady my hands, and help me pay attention to the people and the places you put in front of me. Guide my next step, and remind me that you are already in the days ahead. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 121:8

The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forever more.

(WEB)

Pray this verse when you are about to leave the house or cross a threshold. Ask God to watch over your going out and your coming in, and to keep you under his care from the first mile to the last.

Psalm 23:4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

(WEB)

Use this verse when the road feels dark or uncertain. Name the specific fear you are carrying, then ask the Shepherd to walk with you through that valley and to comfort you with his presence.

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

(WEB)

Pray this when anxiety is rising about what comes next. Speak the promise back to God, asking him to strengthen you and hold you steady when you feel you cannot take another step.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Bring this verse to God when you face decisions along the way. Ask him to make your paths straight and to help you trust him rather than relying only on your own understanding.

Deuteronomy 31:6

Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid or scared of them; for the LORD your God himself is who goes with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you.”

(WEB)

Pray this verse for courage when the journey asks more of you than you expected. Ask God to remind you that he goes with you and will not leave you, even when you feel alone.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a quiet moment before you set out, such as while you sit in the car, stand at the door with your bag in hand, or sit on the edge of the bed the night before a trip. Keep your hands open in your lap or rest them on the steering wheel or your luggage. Pray slowly, pausing after each sentence so the words can settle before you move on.

You might also ask a friend, a spouse, or a family member to pray this prayer with you or for you, especially if the journey is long or hard. Some people keep a copy in the glove box or tuck it into a travel wallet so they can read it again on the way. Return to it whenever you feel anxious along the road, and let it become a habit of talking with God as you go.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord go before you and beside you on every mile. May he guard your going and your returning, and give you peace where the road is hard. May you arrive safely, rest well, and find that God was faithful to you at every turn.
