This is a simple prayer for my mother, written for the times you want to lift her up to God but do not know where to begin. It can be read aloud exactly as written, or you can use it as a starting point and speak your own words in the same spirit. Pray it when you are sitting with her, when you are driving home from a hard phone call, or in the quiet of the morning before the day gets loud.

Simple Prayer for My Mother

Lord, I bring my mother to You today. You know her by name, and You know every year she has lived, every choice she has made and every worry that keeps her up at night. Thank You for the gift of her life and for the ways she has loved me, even when she did not get everything right. Be near her in her body, and give her strength for the tasks that feel heavy this week.

Father, I ask You to hold her heart. Where she is afraid, give her a steady sense of Your presence. Where she is tired, give her rest that is deeper than sleep. Heal what needs healing, comfort what cannot be fixed, and bring people into her life who will care for her well. Guard her mind from the fear that keeps circling back, and remind her that she is not alone in any room she walks into.

I also ask You to bless our relationship, Lord. Soften whatever is hard between us, and help me to speak and listen with patience. Let her feel loved by me, and let me feel loved by her, even on the days when we see things differently. Thank You that You love her more than I ever could. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, my mother is in Your hands. Watch over her today and keep her safe. Give her peace where she is anxious, strength where she is weary, and the sense that she is loved. Let me be a gentle presence in her life, and let her know Your nearness in some small way today. Amen.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

Speak this promise over your mother when she feels unsteady or small. Ask God to be the strength she leans on, and to remind her that His presence is not something she has to earn or prove.

Psalm 23:1-3

1 The LORD is my shepherd: I shall lack nothing. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. 3 He restores my soul. He guides me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Pray this psalm for your mother when she needs rest and restoration. Ask the Shepherd to lead her to quiet places, to refresh her soul, and to guide her steadily through whatever season she is in.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

16 Rejoice always. 17 Pray without ceasing. 18 In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus toward you.

Use this passage to ask for a thankful spirit in your mother’s life. Pray that she would notice small graces each day, and that gratitude would grow alongside her trust in God’s faithfulness.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a time of day that is already set aside for you, such as the few minutes after you pour your morning coffee or the quiet before you fall asleep. Sit somewhere you can be still, and keep a photo of your mother nearby if it helps you picture her. Pray slowly, pausing after each sentence to let the words settle before you move on.

If you cannot be with her in person, you can still pray this prayer while you hold something in your hands, like a cup of tea, her favorite scarf, or a worn prayer card you have written her name on. Invite other family members or a friend from church to pray it with you on a set day each week, so that your mother is carried by more than one voice.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless your mother and keep her safe in every season. May His face shine upon her and give her peace that steadies her heart. And may you, her child, walk in the same grace, knowing that the One who loves her has you in His care as well.
