This simple prayer for my pastor is written for the moments when you want to lift up your spiritual leader but are not sure where to begin. Pray it on a Sunday morning before the service, during the week when you know a sermon or a hard decision is weighing on them, or whenever their name comes to mind. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak more freely from there.
Simple Prayer for My Pastor
Lord, I thank You for my pastor and for the willingness to say yes to the work You gave them. They carry more than most of us see: sermons that must be prepared through tired weeks, phone calls from people in crisis, decisions about the church that keep them awake, and a family that shares in all of it. Give them rest that is real, the kind that lets them sleep without rehearsing the next conversation. Refresh their body and their mind, and remind them that the flock is Yours before it is theirs.
Father, guard their heart from pride when people praise them and from despair when people leave or disagree. Give them wisdom when the path is unclear, courage to speak truth with love, and humility to listen when they are wrong. Fill them afresh with Your Spirit so that their words carry more than their own strength could ever give. Protect their marriage and their children, and let them know they are loved by the people in this church, not only needed by them.
Thank You that they do not serve alone and that You are faithful to finish what You have started in them. Keep them close to You in the quiet places where no one else sees. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, bless my pastor today. Give them strength for what lies ahead, peace where there is pressure, and wisdom for every decision. Guard their family, refresh their spirit, and let them feel Your nearness in the middle of the work. Thank You for them. Amen.

The Lord is the true Shepherd, and He cares for the shepherds too. Pray that your pastor would find rest beside still waters and that God would restore their soul in the middle of a demanding season.
How to Pray This Prayer
Many people find it helpful to pray for their pastor early in the week, before the emails and meetings start to fill the calendar. Choose a quiet spot at home, or sit in the car before going into the building, and hold a copy of the prayer in your hands. Writing your pastor’s name on a card and placing it on the kitchen table can serve as a visible reminder to return to them each day.
Consider inviting your family, a small group, or a prayer partner to pray with you. Ask them to take a sentence each, or to pray the prayer together once a month. If you know a specific burden your pastor is carrying, such as a sick parent, a difficult board meeting, or a sermon series that feels heavy, name it aloud in your own words after reading the prayer.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord who called your pastor to shepherd His people hold them close and keep them steady. May He give them rest, joy in the work, and the knowledge that they are deeply valued by the people they serve. May His peace guard their home and their heart every day.
