This simple prayer for the month ahead is written for the first days of a new month, when a calendar full of unknowns can feel heavier than the weeks you have already lived through. Pray it on the first morning of the month, or on any day you feel the weight of what is coming. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and put your own worries and hopes in the blanks.

Simple Prayer for the Month Ahead

Lord, I come to you at the start of this month, and I bring you what I already know is coming. There are bills to pay, deadlines at work, and people I love whose health or moods I cannot control. There are also quiet worries I have not named yet, and I ask you to show me what they are. Give me wisdom for the choices in front of me, and help me to set my priorities without guilt for what I cannot do.

Be with me on the hard days, when I am tired and short-tempered, and when the to-do list grows faster than I can work through it. Keep me from carrying tomorrow’s fears into today. Help me take one day at a time, and one task at a time, trusting that you are already in each of the weeks ahead. When I forget, remind me that I am not walking into this month alone.

I give you the people I am responsible for, and I give you the ones who are carrying their own burdens. Bless my home, my work, and the small ordinary moments that will fill these thirty days. Let me see your faithfulness in them. Thank you for the mercies of the last month, and for the mercies I can already count on in this one. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, this month is already full, and I feel the pressure of it in my chest. Give me what I need for today and help me trust you with the rest. Show me the next right step, and keep me steady when plans change. Be near to the people I love and near to me. Help me walk through these weeks with patience and with peace. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 46:1-3

1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. 2 Therefore we won’t be afraid, though the earth changes, though the mountains are shaken into the heart of the seas; 3 though its waters roar and are troubled, though the mountains tremble with their swelling. Selah.

(WEB)

Read this slowly at the start of the month and let it remind you that God is a refuge before any trouble arrives. Pray it as a declaration of where you are placing your trust for the weeks ahead.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Use this verse when you are facing decisions you cannot yet see clearly. Ask God to direct your plans for the month and to make your path straight as you take each step.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Pray this when the month feels crowded with anxious thoughts. Hand each worry to God in prayer and ask for the peace that guards your heart and mind.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

Take this verse into the mornings of the month, especially the ones that feel heavy. Thank God that his mercies are new each day, and ask him to give you fresh mercy for each one.

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

(WEB)

Pray this when fear pushes against your plans for the month. Ask God to strengthen you and to hold you steady, whatever the coming weeks bring.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a quiet time at the beginning of the day, before your phone and your inbox take over. A cup of coffee or tea at the kitchen table works well, or a seat by a window where you can see the morning light. Keep a notebook nearby so you can write down any worry or hope that comes up while you pray, and come back to that list later in the month.

You might also share this prayer with someone who is walking through their own month ahead, such as a spouse, a friend, or a small group. Pray it together over the phone or over a shared meal, and ask each other what each week holds. Praying for one another makes the month feel less like a weight you carry alone and more like something you carry together.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord go before you into every week of this month and walk beside you through each long day. May he give you wisdom for what is unclear, strength for what is hard, and a peace that settles your heart when the calendar feels crowded. May you find his faithfulness waiting for you on the last day of the month, just as it was on the first.
