This prayer is for anyone who wants to start the day by asking God to bless what lies ahead, the ordinary hours as much as the big moments. Pray it in the morning before the phone comes out, or at any point when you want to remember that each day is a gift from God. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.
Prayer for Daily Blessings
Lord, thank You for this new day. Before I reach for my phone or think about my list, I want to acknowledge that every breath, every hour and every person I will meet today is held in Your hands. Bless my work, whether that means the emails waiting for me, the meeting I dread, or the dishes in the sink. Give me patience when things move slowly and clarity when I have to make a decision.
Bless the people I love. Watch over the ones who are sick, the ones who are grieving, and the ones who are far away from home. Let my words today be kind and my silences be wise. When I feel worn out by noon, remind me that You are still at work and that I do not have to carry everything alone. Protect my body, my mind and my heart from the things that would pull me away from You. Teach me to notice Your goodness in small places, like a cup of coffee, a short conversation, or a clear sky on the drive home. Let this day be one where Your presence is real to me, and where I am a blessing to someone else. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Father, bless this day in the places I can see and the places I cannot. Go before me into every task and every conversation. Give me peace where I am anxious, strength where I am tired, and kindness where I am tempted to be sharp. Let something good come of today, and let me see it when it does. Thank You for loving me well. Amen.
Scriptures to Pray Alongside
Psalm 90:14
Satisfy us in the morning with your loving kindness, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.
(WEB)
Ask God to satisfy you early with His steadfast love, so that your morning begins with a sense of being cared for rather than a list of demands. Let this verse set the tone for the whole day.
Numbers 6:24-26
24 ‘The LORD bless you, and keep you. 25 The LORD make his face to shine on you, and be gracious to you. 26 The LORD lift up his face toward you, and give you peace.’
(WEB)
This is the blessing God gave Moses to speak over His people. Pray it slowly over yourself, and then over the people you will see today, asking that God’s face would shine on them.
Lamentations 3:22-23
22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.
(WEB)
When yesterday went badly, this passage reminds you that God’s mercies are new each morning. Thank Him for fresh compassion and ask Him to help you receive it.
Psalm 118:24
This is the day that the LORD has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it!
(WEB)
Use this verse to choose gladness on purpose. Ask God to help you rejoice in the day He has made, even when the day is not what you planned.
Matthew 6:33-34
33 But seek first God’s Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore don’t be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Each day’s own evil is sufficient.
(WEB)
Pray this passage when tomorrow’s worries start crowding into today. Ask God to help you seek His kingdom first and trust Him with the hours you cannot control.
How to Pray This Prayer
Many people find the first few minutes after waking the easiest time to pray this, before the house gets loud and the screens light up. Sit somewhere quiet, such as the edge of your bed or a kitchen chair, and hold a warm drink if that helps you settle. Reading the prayer aloud slows your thoughts and keeps your mind from wandering to the day’s tasks.
You can also pray it with someone else. A spouse, a roommate or a friend can take turns reading the lines, or you can pray it together over the breakfast table with children. If you miss the morning, pray it on your lunch break or during the drive home, and let it become a way of asking God to bless the rest of the day.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord go before you into this day and walk beside you through every hour. May He keep you steady when the work is heavy and gentle when your heart is tender. May you know, in ordinary moments, that you are loved, and may your life be a blessing to the people you meet.
