This bedtime prayer for my wife is written to be prayed at the end of the day, once the lights are low and the day’s noise has settled. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words wherever your heart leads. It gently hands the day’s worries, hopes and gratitude to God before you both sleep.

Bedtime Prayer for My Wife

Lord, thank you for the day we have been given. Thank you for my wife and for the many ways she showed up today, in the things she did and the things she carried quietly that no one else saw. Forgive us both for the moments we were short with each other, for the words we wish we had chosen differently, and for the times we left something unsaid. Wash those hurts clean and let them rest with you tonight.

Watch over her while she sleeps. Give her a sleep that is deep and untroubled, and quiet the thoughts that circle when the house goes still. If there is a worry on her mind about her health, her work, her family or the future, take it from her hands and hold it for her. Let her wake rested, knowing she does not have to carry every burden alone.

Surround her with your peace and your protection through the night. Guard her body, her heart and her mind. Remind her of how deeply she is loved, by you and by me, and let that truth be the last thing she holds before she drifts off. Keep her close, Father, and bring her back to us in the morning with a fresh and grateful heart. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I ask you to bless my wife tonight. Thank you for her and for this day. Ease whatever weighs on her, quiet her mind, and give her rest that restores her. Keep her safe while she sleeps and remind her that she is loved. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 4:8

In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, the LORD alone, make me live in safety.

(WEB)

Pray this verse as a declaration over your wife, trusting that she can lie down without fear because God is the one who keeps her. It is a good verse to speak slowly as she settles into sleep.

Psalm 127:2

It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, eating the bread of toil; for he gives sleep to his loved ones.

(WEB)

Pray this verse by naming the work and worries she has carried today and placing them in God’s hands. Ask him to give her the rest that her body and spirit need.

Psalm 121:3-4

3 He will not allow your foot to be moved. He who keeps you will not slumber. 4 Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

(WEB)

Pray this verse as a request for protection through the hours of the night. Ask God to watch over her while she sleeps, the way a faithful guardian keeps watch.

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

(WEB)

Pray this verse for your wife’s weary places, the tiredness that goes deeper than sleep. Ask Jesus to lift what she is carrying and give her the rest only he can give.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Pray this verse by bringing your wife’s anxieties to God one by one. Ask that his peace would guard her heart and mind, especially in the quiet of the night.

How to Pray This Prayer

Pray this prayer together at the end of the day, sitting on the edge of the bed or side by side before the lights go out. If you are praying alone for your wife, you might keep a hand on her pillow or place your hand over your heart as you speak. Letting your hands rest on something familiar can help the words feel grounded.

If she is already asleep, you can still pray quietly beside her, speaking softly or in your heart. You might also invite a friend, a family member or a small group to pray for her at the same hour, so she is held by more than one voice. Consider writing a few of her current concerns on a note by the bed so you remember to lift them up each night.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless her and keep her through the night. May his face shine warmly upon her and his peace settle over her like a soft blanket. May she wake refreshed, loved and ready for the morning he has already prepared.
