This morning prayer is written for new fathers who wake up tired, unsure, and already needing grace before the baby stirs. Pray it as soon as you are awake, while the house is quiet, or in the minutes between the first feeding and the first cup of coffee. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words over the same needs.
Morning Prayers for New Fathers
Father, I wake up to a new day and already I feel the weight of it. There is a little one in the next room who depends on me for almost everything, and I am still learning what that means. Some mornings I do not know what I am doing. I want to be steady for my wife and my child, but I feel clumsy and short on sleep. Help me to receive the day as a gift from you rather than a test I must pass.
Lord, give me patience for the feedings, the diaper changes, the crying I cannot always explain. Where I am anxious about money, about work, about whether I am doing enough, quiet those fears and remind me that you see my family more clearly than I do. Give me the wisdom to ask for help when I need it, and the humility to listen to my wife when she knows something I do not. Let my hands be gentle today and my words kind.
Thank you for this child and for the trust you have placed in me as a father. Make me a man who points my family toward you, even when I am running on empty. Walk with me through every task and every hard moment ahead. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, I am tired and I am new at this. Give me patience with my child, kindness toward my wife, and a steady heart in the hours ahead. Show me where I need to stop and listen, and help me trust that you are with us today. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Try praying the longer version while you sit on the edge of the bed or in the nursery rocking chair, before anyone else is up. Keep your Bible or phone nearby so you can read the verses aloud. Many fathers find it helps to pray with one hand resting on the crib rail or on their wife’s shoulder, so that the prayer is tied to the people it concerns.
If the house is busy, pray the shorter version while you prepare a bottle or walk to the car. You can also invite your wife to pray the prayer with you, or ask a trusted friend or older father to pray it for you on days when you feel too worn down to speak.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord go before this father into every hour of the day, steady his hands, and fill his heart with peace. May his wife and child rest in God’s care, and may this family grow in love and faithfulness from morning until night.
