This morning prayer is written for engaged couples who want to start the day by bringing their future marriage, their wedding plans and their own hearts before God. Pray it when you first wake up, before the phone and the to-do list take over, either aloud together or alone as you prepare for the day. It can be read exactly as written, or you can use it as a starting point and speak your own words in the spaces it leaves open.

Morning Prayers for Engaged Couples

Lord, thank You for this new day and for the gift of the person You have given me to love. Before I open my messages or think about the calendar, I want to give You this morning. Some of the wedding details feel heavy right now: the budget, the guest list, the families who have opinions, and the question of where we will live after the wedding. Help me take each task one at a time today, and keep me from carrying tomorrow’s worries into today’s conversations.

Father, I ask You to make my fiancé or fiancée and me patient and kind with each other, especially when we disagree about small things. Give us listening ears and gentle words. Where we are still learning how to talk about money, faith, work and family, teach us to speak honestly and to hear each other fully. Shape our hearts so that we grow closer to one another as we grow closer to You. Let today be one more step toward the marriage You have in mind for us.

Thank You that You are faithful even when our plans change. Guard our relationship from pride, from comparison with other couples, and from the pressure to make everything perfect. Help us remember that the goal is not a flawless day but a life lived together under Your care. Be with us in our work, our travel, our phone calls and our quiet moments, and let our love for each other point others toward You. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I bring this new day to You. Be near to the one You have given me, and help us love each other with patience and honesty. Guide our plans for the wedding and for our life together, and make us wise with money, time and words. Keep us close to You, and let our marriage be built on Your faithfulness. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Pray this verse when the wedding planning feels overwhelming. Ask God to help you trust Him with the decisions you cannot yet see, and to make your path clear one step at a time.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7

4 Love is patient and is kind; love doesn’t envy. Love doesn’t brag, is not proud, 5 doesn’t behave itself inappropriately, doesn’t seek its own way, is not provoked, takes no account of evil; 6 doesn’t rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

(WEB)

Read this passage slowly with your fiancé or fiancée and let it shape how you respond to each other today. Ask God to form these qualities in both of you, especially on the days when patience runs short.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

9 Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. 10 For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him who is alone when he falls, and doesn’t have another to lift him up.

(WEB)

Thank God for the companionship you are building together. Pray that you will be a steady help to each other, lifting one another up when either of you stumbles.

Psalm 127:1

Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain who build it. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman guards it in vain.

(WEB)

Use this verse to release the pressure to control everything about the wedding and the marriage. Ask the Lord to build what He wants to build, and to keep you from striving in your own strength.

Colossians 3:12-14

12 Put on therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, a heart of compassion, kindness, lowliness, humility, and perseverance; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do. 14 Above all these things, walk in love, which is the bond of perfection.

(WEB)

Pray that compassion, kindness, humility and forgiveness will mark your relationship from the start. Ask God to help you clothe yourselves in these qualities before the day gets busy.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a regular time each morning, such as while the coffee brews or before you look at your phone. If you live together or near each other, try praying side by side, holding hands or sitting at the kitchen table. If you live apart, agree on a time to pray over a video call or by reading the prayer aloud to each other on the phone. Keep a notebook beside your bed so you can write down what each of you is asking God for, and return to those notes when you pray together later in the week.

You might also invite a trusted mentor, a pastor or a close friend to pray for you as you move toward the wedding. Ask them to remember specific needs, such as a difficult conversation with family or a decision about where to live. Their prayers can carry you on the days when your own words feel thin, and they remind you that your marriage belongs to a larger body of believers.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord go before you into this day and walk beside you through every conversation and decision. May He give you peace as you plan and grace as you love one another. May your engagement be a season of growing trust, deepening friendship and lasting hope in the God who holds your future.
