This morning prayer is for the moment you wake up carrying hurt from someone who wronged you, and you want to start the day with a softer heart. Pray it before you check your phone or step into the day’s conversations, and read it aloud exactly as written or use it as a starting point for your own words.

Morning Prayers for Forgiving Others

Father, I open my eyes to a new day, and the first thing I feel is the weight of what was done to me. I keep replaying the words, the silence, the broken promise. Before I reach for my coffee or my to-do list, I bring that hurt to You. You see every detail I am tempted to rehearse, and You know how tired I am of carrying it alone.

Today I will meet the people who hurt me, or at least I will think of them. I will sit across from a coworker, answer a text from a family member, or pass someone in the hallway who I would rather avoid. Give me the grace to speak with kindness when I want to speak with sharp edges. Help me remember that I was forgiven first, and that I cannot hold on to what You have already released to me.

Loosen the grip of resentment in my chest. Where I have been keeping a record of wrongs, teach me to close the book. Where I want to be right more than I want to be free, humble me. I ask You to give me the desire to forgive, and then the courage to act on it, one ordinary moment at a time. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, this morning I am still holding onto a hurt. Help me let it go, and give me the same mercy You have given me. Guide my words and my thoughts toward the person I struggle with today. Keep bitterness from settling in before I have even had breakfast. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Ephesians 4:32

And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you.

(WEB)

Pray this verse as a reminder that kindness and forgiveness are meant to flow from the way God has already treated you. Ask Him to help you remember His mercy when your feelings tell you to hold back.

Colossians 3:13

Bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do.

(WEB)

Read this verse slowly and let the phrase about bearing with one another sink in. Ask God to show you where patience is needed in your relationships today, and where forgiveness is the next step.

Matthew 6:14-15

14 “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you don’t forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

(WEB)

This passage can feel heavy in the morning, so pray it honestly. Ask God to search your heart and to help you release anyone who has wronged you before the day gets crowded.

Psalm 103:12

As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

(WEB)

Use this verse to picture how far God removes your sins from you. Ask Him to help you stop dragging old offenses back into the present, both your own failures and the wrongs done to you.

Luke 6:37

Don’t judge, and you won’t be judged. Don’t condemn, and you won’t be condemned. Set free, and you will be set free.

(WEB)

Pray this verse for the freedom it promises, the release from judging and condemning. Ask God to help you extend to others the same generosity you hope to receive when you fall short.

How to Pray This Prayer

Pray this prayer while you are still in bed or sitting at the kitchen table before the day’s noise begins. Keep a cup of tea or water in your hands, and let the warmth remind you that God is near. If a particular person comes to mind, pause and name them silently before moving on.

You might also share this prayer with a spouse, a friend, or a family member who is working through a painful relationship. Praying together over breakfast can help both of you start the day with the same goal of forgiveness. Return to this prayer whenever old resentment resurfaces during the day.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who forgave every wrong against you give you a heart willing to release others today. May His peace settle over each conversation and His patience guide every reply. Go into this day knowing you are held, forgiven, and free to love.
