This morning prayer is for asking God to guard and guide your home before the day begins. Pray it as the first thing you do after waking, or while the coffee brews and the house is still quiet. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Morning Prayer for Our Home

Lord, thank You for this home and for the night we were allowed to rest in it. Thank You that You were awake while we slept, and that You are already at work in the rooms we are about to walk into. We bring each person who lives here before You this morning. Give us patience at the breakfast table when tempers are short, and gentleness when someone is slow to get dressed or late for the bus. Help us speak to one another with kindness, even when we are tired.

Be with the work each of us is about to do, whether that is a job, school, errands, or the quiet tasks no one notices. Guard our going out and our coming back in. Keep our money, our health, and our plans in Your hands, and teach us to trust You with what we cannot control today. Where there is worry about a bill, a diagnosis, or an unanswered question, let it settle into peace rather than fear. Make this house a place where Your presence is felt, a shelter for everyone who enters it. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, we give You this home and everyone in it. Go before us into the day, and keep watch over what we cannot see. Soften our hearts toward one another, steady our hands for the work ahead, and let peace fill the rooms we pass through. Be near to anyone who is hurting this morning, and be the one we return to tonight. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 127:1

Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain who build it. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman guards it in vain.

(WEB)

Pray this verse as a confession that the house cannot stand on your effort alone. Ask God to build the household on His foundation, so that your schedules and chores rest on Him.

Psalm 121:8

The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forever more.

(WEB)

Pray this as you think about everyone leaving the house today. Ask the Lord to guard each departure and each return, from the school run to the late commute.

Joshua 24:15

If it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose today whom you will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell; but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”

(WEB)

Pray this verse as a family or as a household, choosing aloud to serve the Lord in the ordinary decisions of the day. Ask Him to shape the way everyone in the home spends their time and attention.

Psalm 90:17

Let the favor of the Lord our God be on us; establish the work of our hands for us; yes, establish the work of our hands.

(WEB)

Pray this for the work your hands will do today. Ask God to establish the effort of your home and make it fruitful in ways that outlast the day.

Romans 12:12

Rejoicing in hope; enduring in troubles; continuing steadfastly in prayer…

(WEB)

Pray this over the mood of your home as the day begins. Ask for steady hope, patience in small irritations, and a habit of coming back to prayer when the day gets busy.

How to Pray This Prayer

Try praying this in the first ten minutes after you wake, before phones and news reach you. If you can, stand in the kitchen or at the front door, where you will see the people who live with you and the path they will take. Holding a warm cup or resting a hand on the doorframe can help your attention stay on God rather than on the list running through your head.

If others live in the home, invite them to pray the shorter version together over breakfast, or let each person add one name or one task for the day. Children can say a single sentence, and everyone can answer with a shared “Amen.” Praying together turns a rushed morning into a small, steady moment of shared trust.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord go before each person in this home today and walk beside them in every task. May He keep their going out and their coming in, and fill this house with peace that lasts long after the morning is over.
