This prayer is written for the season after a child is born, when your heart is full and your hands are busy and the questions come faster than the answers. Pray it in the quiet of a feeding, beside the crib, or on the drive home from the hospital. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or let it be a starting point and speak in your own words what is already on your heart.
Blessings for a New Baby
Lord, thank You for this child. We did not earn this gift, and we are amazed that You trusted us with a life so small and so precious. Thank You for the tiny fingers, the first cry, and the way this little one already fits into our arms as if made for them. Be near to us in the sleepless nights, when we wonder whether we are doing anything right. Give us patience when the crying will not stop, and gentleness when we are worn thin.
Father, we ask You to bless this baby with good health and steady growth. Guard the early days from illness and fear, and give the doctors and nurses wisdom wherever they are needed. Let our child grow up knowing she is loved, that she belongs to a family, and that she belongs to You. Help us to point her toward You in what we say and in how we live. Make us faithful parents, and let our home be a place of peace. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, thank You for this little one in my arms. Keep this child safe and healthy, and help me to rest in Your care when I am tired or afraid. Give me the grace to love well today, one feeding and one diaper at a time. Bless this baby with a long life of faith and joy, and let her know Your love from the very beginning. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Choose a moment that is already part of your day, such as a late-night feeding or the quiet minutes after bath time. Keep your baby close while you pray, and let one hand rest gently on her back or head. If you cannot speak aloud, pray silently, or simply say “Lord, bless her” again and again until your thoughts settle.
You do not have to pray alone. Invite your partner, a grandparent, or a trusted friend to pray with you, or ask them to pray for your baby on the days when your own words run out. Some families write the prayer on a card and tuck it into the diaper bag or near the changing table as a reminder.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord bless this child and keep her safe in every season of her life. May He make His face shine upon her and give her peace. May the parents who hold her be strengthened by His grace each day, and may this little one grow up knowing she is deeply loved.
