This prayer is written for a women’s retreat, whether you are the one attending, the one leading, or the one who has quietly volunteered to carry the coffee urn. Pray it on the drive in, during the first evening gathering, or at dawn before the day’s sessions begin. It can be read aloud exactly as written, or you can use it as a starting point and add the names of the women in the room.
Blessings for a Women’s Retreat
Father, we come to you as women who have arrived with full calendars, tired shoulders, and hearts that are not quite sure what they need yet. Some of us are carrying grief we have not yet said out loud. Some of us are worried about a child, a marriage, a job, or a diagnosis. Some of us have never been on a retreat before and feel a little shy about sharing a room with strangers. Meet each of us where we are. Quiet the noise we brought with us so that we can actually hear you.
Lord, bless the speakers who will open their Bibles and their lives this weekend. Give them clear words and the courage to say the true thing, not just the comfortable one. Bless the leaders who have planned the meals, the schedule, the music, and the small details nobody will notice unless they go wrong. Give them rest in the middle of their serving. Bless the women who will sit in the back row and say nothing all weekend, and let them go home knowing they were seen. Let friendships form that will outlast this retreat. Let laughter fill the hallways and let tears be welcomed without shame. Teach us to listen to one another as carefully as we hope you are listening to us. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, bless this room and every woman in it. Settle the restless ones and encourage the weary ones. Give the speakers clear words and the listeners open ears. Let this weekend draw us closer to you and to one another. Thank you for the gift of being here together. Amen.
Scriptures to Pray Alongside
Psalm 46:10
“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth.”
(WEB)
Use this verse to slow down at the start of the retreat. Pray it while you find your seat, asking God to still the racing thoughts you brought from home so that you can give the weekend your full attention.
Isaiah 40:31
But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.
(WEB)
Pray this for the women who are running on empty. Ask God to renew strength in those who came exhausted, so that the weekend refreshes body and spirit rather than adding one more demand.
Romans 15:5-6
5 Now the God of perseverance and of encouragement grant you to be of the same mind one with another according to Christ Jesus, 6 that with one accord you may with one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
(WEB)
This passage is a good prayer for unity among women who come from different churches, ages, and seasons of life. Ask God to give each woman the same spirit of welcome toward the others that Christ has shown to us.
Philippians 4:6-7
6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.
(WEB)
Pray this during any moment of worry that surfaces during the retreat. Bring each specific concern to God in prayer, and trust that his peace can guard hearts even when circumstances at home remain unsettled.
2 Corinthians 1:3-4
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort; 4 who comforts us in all our affliction, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, through the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
(WEB)
Read this over the women who are walking through loss or hard news. Pray that the comfort they receive here will equip them to comfort others, and that the weekend becomes a place where God’s comfort is shared freely.
How to Pray This Prayer
Choose a quiet moment before the first session, perhaps in your room with the door closed or on a bench outside with a cup of tea. Read the prayer slowly, pausing after each sentence to let the names and needs you carry settle in your mind. Keeping a pen nearby can help, so you can jot down a person or request that stirs your heart and return to it later in the weekend.
If you are leading the retreat, consider inviting a small group of women to pray this prayer together during the opening session, taking turns reading a paragraph each. You might also place a printed copy on each table so that anyone who is nervous to pray aloud can simply read along. Let the room be filled with the sound of women asking God for the same good things.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord go before each woman who gathers this weekend and walk beside her through every session, every meal, and every late-night conversation. May he hold her gently where she is weary and lift her where she has grown discouraged. May she leave this place knowing she is loved, equipped, and sent back into her life with a steadier heart.
