This short prayer is for anyone who wants to begin a day by asking God for His goodness, peace and blessing. It is best prayed first thing in the morning, while the house is quiet, or in the car before the day’s first obligation. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words where your heart needs to say more.
Short Prayer for a Blessed Day
Lord, thank you for this new day, which I did not earn and could not have made for myself. You have kept me through the night, and you have given me another chance to live in your presence. Before I look at my calendar, my messages and the list of things I am worried about, I want to look at you. Help me remember that you are already in this day, going ahead of me into every meeting, every conversation and every quiet hour.
Some of you already know what this day holds, and some of it frightens me. There may be a difficult talk to have, a bill that has to be paid, a child who needs patience, or a body that feels tired before it has even started. Give me wisdom for the decisions I face and kindness for the people I will meet. Let me be useful to someone today, and let me notice the small mercies that are easy to miss when I am in a hurry. Bless my work, my home and the people I love, and keep me from measuring my worth by how much I manage to get done.
Whatever happens today, let me come back to you at the end of it with a grateful heart, even if I have fallen short. I ask for a blessed day, not because I deserve one, but because you are good and you delight in giving good gifts to your children. Walk with me, speak to me, and let your peace guard my thoughts. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Father, this is your day, and I give it to you. Be with me in what I must do and in what I cannot control. Bless the people I will see, guard my heart from anxiety, and help me be gentle in my words. Let something of your goodness show up in me today, even in small ways. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Psalm 90:14

This prayer from Moses asks God to satisfy his people with his steadfast love in the morning. Pray it as a request for the day’s first gift: a sense of being loved before anything is accomplished. Ask that his love would shape how you speak and act.
How to Pray This Prayer
Choose a time when you can speak without being interrupted, such as before the household wakes, while the coffee brews, or in your parked car before going into work. Keep a hand on something that grounds you, like a mug, a Bible or the steering wheel, so that your body settles along with your mind. Read the prayer slowly the first time, and then pray the part that meets your need most honestly again in your own words.
This prayer also works well for someone else. A spouse, a friend, a parent or a small group can pray it together over a child heading to school, a colleague facing a hard meeting, or a neighbor going through a season of illness. Speak the names aloud, and let the prayer become a shared request rather than a private one.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord go before you and beside you today. May he bless your work and your rest, and keep your heart steady in whatever the hours bring. May his peace guard your thoughts, and may his goodness meet you in ordinary moments you did not expect.
