This prayer is for the times when you wonder whether there will be enough for the next bill, the next meal, or the next week. You can pray it in the morning before the day begins, at the kitchen table when the account balance is on your mind, or whenever worry about money starts to crowd out everything else. Read it aloud as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words.

Christian Prayer for Daily Provision

Father, you know what I need before I ask, and you know the numbers I keep turning over at night. I bring you the rent, the groceries, the gas in the tank, and the bill I have not opened yet. Help me to trust that you see each of these things and that you have not forgotten me. Where I have been anxious, give me calm. Where I have been tempted to take matters into my own hands out of fear, slow me down and remind me that you are able to meet needs I cannot meet myself.

Teach me to receive what you give each day without grabbing for more than I need. Show me where I have been careless, and where I have been generous, and let both come from a heart that knows you are the source of every good thing. If there is a step I should take, make it clear to me. If there is a need I should bring to someone else, give me the courage to ask. Let me be thankful for the daily bread I have today, and let that thankfulness steady me for tomorrow. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I am worried about money right now, and I do not want to carry it alone. You feed the birds and clothe the fields, and I am worth more to you than they are. Give me what I need for today, help me to rest in that, and keep my heart close to you while I wait for the next step. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Matthew 6:11

Give us today our daily bread.

(WEB)

Jesus taught his followers to ask for bread one day at a time. Pray this line slowly, naming the specific needs on your mind, and let it shape your asking into something small, honest and daily.

Philippians 4:19

My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Paul wrote this from experience, not from a comfortable place. Pray it by reminding God of the needs in front of you, and by trusting that his supply is measured by his riches, not by your bank balance.

Psalm 37:25

I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his children begging for bread.

(WEB)

This verse comes from a psalm that looks back over a long life. Pray it as a testimony you are building, asking God to let you see his faithfulness in the ordinary provisions of your own days.

Matthew 6:26

See the birds of the sky, that they don’t sow, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns. Your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you of much more value than they?

(WEB)

Jesus points to the birds to calm anxious hearts. Pray this verse while you look at something simple outside, and ask God to help you see your own needs as cared for by the same Father who feeds the sparrows.

Psalm 23:1

The LORD is my shepherd: I shall lack nothing.

(WEB)

When you lack, the phrase “I shall not want” can feel like a stretch. Pray it as a declaration of who your shepherd is, and ask God to shape your sense of what you truly need around his care.

How to Pray This Prayer

Try praying the longer version first thing in the morning, before you check your phone or open a bill. Sit in a chair you normally use, with a cup of something warm, and let the first minutes of the day belong to God. You might hold a pen and write down the one or two needs that weigh heaviest, then read the prayer aloud and add those names to it.

If money worry hits you in the middle of a busy day, pray the shorter version wherever you are, even in a parked car or in line at the store. You can also ask a friend, a small group, or your church family to pray this with you, and let them speak it over your household when you cannot find the words yourself.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who feeds the birds and clothes the fields supply every need you bring to him today. May he steady your thoughts, open the doors that should be open, and give you peace that holds even when the numbers are still uncertain. May you rest in the knowledge that you are held by a faithful Father.
